We spent three months in Bali last year(Jan-Apr). We will be heading back next a December. Is Lombok a better destination. Less tourists better beaches etc. Thanks

Imho , the beaches a better than bali but its a noisy place ,"island of a 1000 mosques", and i dont find the people as nice as here .

Been to Lombok several times and IMHO it's not a patch on Bali. The roads up north around Rinjani are great for motoring on but the only places to find "tourist" infrastructure are Sengigi (Gillis too, of course) and Kuta in the south, the rest is a Mosque calling desert. Not worth the effort to go there, unfortunately.

Yes, Bali is most wonderful place. I think Lombok is better place than Bali. Wish you all the best. I hope your tours will be safe.

This is what I tell to everyone who bitches about Bali. I tell them to go live in Lombok or any other jungle island east of Bali and see if they can stand it for more than a few months without having to come back to some western civilization. I've only met one guy who can and he is batshit crazy.Yes, I agree Lombok has better beaches and some amazing views in certain parts but do you really want to move somewhere just for the beaches and the views? Bali is great because it has everything you are comfortable with from your western country while also just being a short hop, skip, and a jump away from some of the most isolated, beautiful island paradises in the world.Use Bali as your home and Indonesia as your tourist destination.

Bali is the only place to live if you have the choice. I was asked out of the blue by a local businessman why I liked living in Bali. I thought about it for a few seconds then replied "freedom". I stand by my response. I am sure that if I was still living in Australia I would be in prison now for breaking the idiotic lockdown rules.

Bali has the Balinese, and that is unique.

Having been to lots of the islands in Indo I can wholeheartedly say that they all have their attractive bits but Bali is the only one that has all of them. I have to also say I find the Moslem and Christians a bit heavy on the other islands. Hindus here are colorful, interesting, unique in the world and not oppressive at all. And it's easier to buy beer here.
