I don't know if I am like other people but I always had the feeling that the police here weren't too sophisticated when it comes to technology. It does seem like that has changed and they are adept at recovering emails/messages etc from both local and overseas messaging services.I am sure people here have nothing to worry about, but you also need to be careful if anyone in your contacts gets into any trouble, because you could also potentially get investigated. What would be possibly worrying is if immigration has the same ability/powers. Services that use encryption might be a better option. As we know even if you have nothing to hide anything you write in emails or texts as possibly a joke can be taken out of context.

Well I agree that the rank and file police on the street may not be too sophisticated, but I would not discount the ability of the central government intelligence services, especially those dedicated to anti drug and anti terrorism units. The surveillance and detection technology available to governments these days is pretty incredible.

Years of playing Solitaire on pirated copies of Windows XP may have made some of them more "cyber savvy". But the "normal police" are still one-finger typists, so them typing reports is still hard to watch or endure.I agree with Mark in that the professionals these days are both better-equipped and capable.
