I, or should say my wife, submitted my application for a life visa. No more immigration visits after that, except to pop my head in every 5 years to show that I am still alive. They have said the price is 13 million for everything.

That is fantastic news! Does it mean that I can get rid of the flesh eating disease of an agent I now have for a new one that won't increase the fee each year because she knows that my only alternative is to begin the process anew?

Rp13 M for a lifetime Kitap is a bargain even if it doesn't include the 2 year MERP that stlll seems to be standard.I'm sure all members would like to hear the outcome when you actually have the Kitap in your passport. Both my wife (aged 60) and I (age 81) are due soon and we were advised by other members it was in the region of Rp 70M...Good news spicy...hope it all works out.Re: @mugwump....if you change agents you will need to start the whole process over...e.g. annual Kitas...then 5 year Kitap followed by life-time Kitap. It depends on age if this is the way to go...... and was my plan but, if spicy's info is correct, I'd be happy to pay the Rp13M..... even I only survived a year afterwards.

I should add that this is for a spouse sponsored visa. Not sure how it works with retirement visas.

I should add that this is for a spouse sponsored visa. Not sure how it works with retirement visas.
In my excitement of the news that point missed me completely.A spouse sponsored visa implies the spouse testifies they are responsibly for any financial obligations their benefactor may cause the RI government financial loss. The retirement visa means the agent accepts that responsibility. This has always been the case and I suppose we have to accept their system. For my wife and I it means the agent could be liable for Rp140 M (?) in case we committed any nefarious act.The crazy thing is our total assets in HSBC Jakarta (FD's, insurance, cash, and local investments) is over IDR 2 Billion... which the gov't would have some access.Just yesterday, Sri Mulyani said she was afraid the Rp. will slide to due to emerging markets being vulnerable to the Argentine money being devalued. She suggested Indonesia needed foreign investment badly and here am I with my little bit, trying to help, and getting no benefit in return. Why would any world-class organisation risk their trillions when Indonesian law prevents ownership of land, possible termination of manufacturing due to jealousy or even eviction of essential and trained workers not co-operating with their visa contracts...to be replaced by brainless Indonesians who cannot complete any job?I was more than impressed by Indonesians Management of the Asian Games....maybe, instead of getting those crony politicians who buy their jobs, Indonesia would be better served by those capable of putting on such a great show. BTW.... I thought Jokowi's TV broadcast from the tent of those poor people of Lombok ,instead of lording it, as he could have, and be seen as the the President ...was a brilliant move, whether intended or not. I just hope the electorate will comprehend the gesture. It was reminiscent of what Senator McCain would have done, in a similar situation, had he become President.....I doubt he would have gone off to play golf.

I got my visa last week. So it did take a bit of time. Immigration gave the usual "still processing in Jakarta" when we asked for updates, so it did take a bit longer than I expected. At the canteen at the back of immigration, there was a foreigner hanging out there and spoke excellent Bahasa. Turns out he had just been released from Kerobokan on drug charges. He was arrested in Singaraja a few years ago so he had to go back to immigration to wait until he was to be deported.
