Be advised Sumba has, if not the worst, at least one of the worst infections with mosquito born diseases, malaria primarily but also dengue fever, in the world!

Back from Pulau Sumba. It was awesome. Probably something like bali was 30+ years ago.Festival was fun like expected. Because it keeps getting out of control at the end of the day, they had some serious well armed riot police presen.I left afternoon so I don't get stuck in traffic.Lots of people still live in traditional bamboo houses.Bought some local artwork, hanged around in empty beaches and had a chat with locals in a tiny fishing village.Btw, they still carry swords :)I have no idea what is happening in the east end of the island and 3 days was not enough for West Sumba.Lots of schools, mostly good roads and verry few tourists. Awesome!Go, and take a look before it gets screwed by mass tourism, large hotels, resorts and destruction of old and unique. Go before the real estate moguls hoist their banners: "resistance is futile, you will be assimilated"

Malaria? It is "relatively high" but not "the worst in the world" It's possible I don't understand WHO data.
