Lisa Wibowo
Hi everyone,My name is Lisa and I'm a Permanent Resident of Australia.I'm in the middle of applying visa for my husband who currently live in Surabaya, East Java.I was just wondering, if anyone here, have any idea / information on the circumstances we're currently facing:In order to support his visa application, we need to provide a statutory declaration / statement from his parents who is Indonesian, doesn't have any passport, and don't speak English. W're having a confusion here, on how to get this declaration done. This declaration is regarding the fact that they witness us living together in the past because we have no bills under our name before. Is that okay if we just go to any Public Notary, and get them witness that declaration? or only a consulate able to do it?And in what language it supposed to be done? (Can I just translate and type for them, and get them sign in front of the notary? or is it better for them to write in Bahasa Indonesia, get them signed and then translate them to Sworn Translator?)If anyone have any information, please help us.Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks again in advance :)

I can't answer your question, but I have done a defacto visa before, but I was living in Australia at the time. I understand your predicament as I am sure it is not easy getting joint bank accounts/electric bills in joint names etc in Indonesia.A notary is on the approved list of professions that can witness documents, so it should be ok, but can't say with 100% certainty. I am sure you will need any documents translated into English and you probably need to use a translator which is approved by the consulate. From memory, photos of you as a couple together are also useful. Maybe you can get stat decs from any Australians you know.I would go through the list of documents which you can provide as evidence and do your best to get as much as you can. Sometimes you need to get a little bit "imaginative", not that I would suggest being dishonest in anyway, as that can be instant grounds for refusal.Maybe join other forums like australiaforum.com and ask your question there, as I am sure there are many people who have been in your situation. And don't be afraid of contacting immigration directly and asking them directly for advice.
