Hi - How does car insurance work in Bali? Approx costs? Thanks

I think its only for the first 5 years of a new car. As for third party Insurance you are on you own.

ehm... it doesn't work :icon_lol:... I only know of new cars having insurance, and most of them have that insurance because the car has been bought using a finance-company..meaning pay whatever as a downpayment and the balance paying per month for the next couple of years. most damage that occurs are scratches/small dents because of hitting bikes or they you ofcourse :icon_wink:..easy to fix at the 'Magic Ketok' sort of bodyrepair shop. price for example frontfender (where your wheel sits) 150K, and looks like new. backbumper and backside fender same costs and result the same.. Have never killed anyone using my car in Indonesia, so wouldn't know if any insurance would help then...but with the Indonesian legal system, I doubt it :icon_rolleyes:

For a repair you pay the first Rp200,000 (small compared with Aust) and there does not seem to be a system to discourage claims - like the no-claim bonus system in Aust. The cost is 3 or 4 million per year depending on car value.

Sounds much like my car insurance. Claims are unbelievably easy. Except for a long wait they make it pleasant. I think mine cost 22juta for 5 years.

thats what I mean...you pay let's say 4 million a year, and per incident you pay the first 200.000....you have to crash your car alot, I mean really crash it to make it worth the while/money...

Question! If I buy auto insurance in Bali, am I covering just my vehicle? What about the person or vehicle that I might run into and it is my fault. How is that handled? Thanks in advance dan

I'm no expert on insurance policies, but my impression is that damage you do to other people or property is covered, but I think to make such a claim there has to be a police report. Yes it covers you when it's your fault, but there are situations where you are not covered. I think not being licensed would be one, maybe being drunk would be another, but I'm guessing.

My car insurance was due yesterday but no word from Binagraya with whom I have been insuring for some years. The Bali office is not answering the phone and neither is the Jakarta office. Can anyone recommend a company in Bali?

I had allianz for a few years and they were brill until my/their agent went bonkers and kept the payment until my bali mate threatened him with the cops. Told Allianz about it and they said they didn't work with him anymore - would a been nice they'd told me too...

Odd. I have tried Binagriya Bali across 3 days and get message saying number is invalid. Tried 3 different offices in Jakarta and the same with every number. I am beginning to think they may have folded. It looks like I may use Allianz as they have an office in Kuta and do answer the phone.

Now Markit, this is getting a bit strange. It was about 6 years ago when I first was looking for car insurance and you recommended an agent for Binagraya. And the next year or the year after that my/their agent went bonkers and kept the payment until I told Binagraya about it and they chased him and got the payment. Does that ring a bell? Anyway we will try Binagraya again tomorrow and if we can't raise them I might try Allianz.... is that who you are using these days and would you recommend them?

I used Allianz for several years for car, house and health ,foolishly thought they would behave like a european company I was wrong ,finally I moved to zurich for the car and bike using chubb for third party risks they have a decent limit 1 billion , Im dealing direct with the office in denpasar also agent support for chubb , so far so good . And of course cheaper for better policies .

That was Wong who went wong. Agent for Binagriya. They contacted me today and problem sorted.
