Increasing animosity towards bule: Real or fake news?

Having been here 14 or so years I would say the road rage and general riding rudeness is at an all time high. In general people with the higher powered mopeds and more often than not ridden by bule. Had to stop numerous times this year before I was hit by oncoming traffic on my side of the road from riders who simply will not wait for an overtaking opportunity and simply expect me to stop to allow them a freeway. Others simply hit the gas in multiple situations and don't bother indicating or value the lives of other road users. Have had two morons speed down my gang without due care to the dogs on it. When stopped and confronted - i stood in front of him - he told me he expected the dogs to clear out of the way when he came down the street. He was lost for words when i asked if the dogs had a higher IQ than he did. Know a lot of people who let out property and a growing number are avoiding Russians with whom they have had poor experiences. I run a number of community groups here and almost every nationality under the sun is represented other than Russians. I would suggest that when you allow 600K people to enter a country who btring a lot of money with them and do not wish to integrate, that will lead to a slowly growing resentment.

All very good points. I mean what's the hurry? Bali is a very small island. And the motorbike drivers that over take the oncoming lane, because they are so much in a hurry. Is really upsetting. It is obvious that there are more cars and motorbikes than the Bali roads are meant for. I have said before, there needs to be built a central bypass running North and South from Sanur to Singaraja. Not a toll road, and not a new airport. First build larger roads, and improve the infrastructure! There has been this fever to sell the rice fields, and build and develop more villas, and resorts, for Thirty years! Now the Russians are coming in, buying the land around Ubud and building huge new resorts, it is only happening, because the Bali people want the money Now! And they are selling the land to rich Indonesian people who partner with the Russians.

I'm 3 hours west of So Bali and live peacefully with the locals here. There is a neighbor who burns rubbish a little too close to me and I need to constantly remind him not to, but that's about it. After 4 years, I still leave my helmet on my bike in town, I never lock my doors except when traveling, never encounter road rage, I'm greeted with smiles wherever I go.... for now, in about 2 years things will dramatically change here so I'm researching a move outside of Indonesia. From my research, Thailand hates the Farangs far more than Bali hates the Bules and it's gotten worse in recent years. The government is also making it far more difficult for a Farang to live there as expats need to comply with new Visa rule changes every year, not like Indonesia. Philippines has it's share of hatred for the expats moving there and it's getting worse. Bali isn't alone.

Yea, they may hate us, but truthfully, they hate anyone that has more than they do. Even between themselves! And if they run off all the Bules, Farangs, etc. where is the money going to come from, for all the,Airports, Taxi's, Hotels, street vendors, Supermarkets, Immigration department? There is not enough commerce between the locals only. And exporting is only for a few industries.

Hello, I was too tired last night to go into detail. There's a massive land clearing operation underway beginning 1.6 kilometers from my leasehold which will be the future home of a Disney-land style amusement park funded by Paramount in the US. Touted to be the largest in SEA, it will have a big impact on this area with traffic, noise, garbage and everything else that accompanies such a huge development in a relatively pristine place. How and why something like a massive amusement park would be located in a predominantly Muslim and very quiet community is beyond me. The goal is to attract foreign and domestic tourists to come here, but there really is no infrastructure, accommodation options, warangs, rubbish disposal here to support it. It will attract mostly Javanese tourists, in my opinion. Aside from the Paramount Park, I can hear chainsaws running for days at a time. Time to move on. Trying to find a spot on Bali which will remain as it is in 5 years is impossible, IMO. Happy New Year to you too.

We know they don't care for us, but the title of the thread has to do with increasing animosity towards foreigners. I subscribe now to get Thailand news and it ain't pretty. Russian on a knife rampage killing locals, locals stabbing a Farang, UK scooter rider killing an elderly woman walking across the street. Maybe it's a few knuckleheads ruining it for the rest of us, true. Moving to Thailand may be 6 months off for me, so I may change my mind. I'm aware I'll be trading one set of problems for another. Aside from some who will benefit from the jobs, do you really think the average Balinese person gives a flying fuck about the "airports, taxi's, hotels, street vendors, supermarkets, immigration department" that comes from development?

Nothing will remain the same in Five years. Look at the traffic now. Without a central bypass running North to South, it is only going to become a four hour traffic jam, to get from Ubud, Mengwi, Tabanan, area to The Denpasar area, One way! It's either build a new bypass, or build an elevated road, above the existing road. Bali is in a situation now, where the infrastructure is in the old way of thinking, and the population is growing rapidly from the local people's families growing, and people from other Islands coming here to work. Driving through small village, after small village to go anywhere, is not working anymore! Now with most people having enough money, through CREDIT, they will buy more and more motorbikes for the kids, and new large cars for the family. If Indonesia wants to kick out all the foreigners, where is the money going to come from? The banks are going to take everything back, if people can't pay! They'll all be crying and wringing their hands saying ( Oh God), Why hath thou forsaken me?

Yes, They care. Those places are where the locals who have money, Work! They are the ones, supporting everyone! A rice farmer, or Woman selling a little produce at the morning market, doesn't bring in enough money to support the economy!
