In many countries where people at the bottom live in bone crushing misery, soccer is one of the few things that give them pleasure and relief. When the local team loses against visitors the spectators often pour from the stadium in a rage, throw rocks at passing cars or hit out at anything to vent their frustration. It seems most unlikely that Indonesia can beat Argentina in the forthcoming match. It will be interesting to see how the crowd behaves with a loss.

Your description perfectly fits the UK football fans. The only difference is it doesn't seem to matter if they win or lose behavior the same. Indonesians would never do that, they are far too obedient and well manored to behave like the English.

:D Personally, I would rather watch grass grow. I suspect the low scoring in the game often builds up tension to an unbearable point that tips people with borderline mental health issues over the edge. The relative sense of security in a soccer crowd is reflected by how few females go to games.

As the father of 3 daughters my commitment was the one of the most painful duties performed. Up and down the field with rarely a goal, even though one of them gutted it out and finally became quite accomplished. I still couldn't find any enjoyment doing my best to never reveal the fact, and found happiness when that period of childhood was at an end. Was it worth it? It certainly was.

I can see you have not been to a local game yet. Most games 60% men 40% woman and children having a great day out. The big problems happen when 80,000 people turn up and only 45,000 seats.
