Issue of the week.

Questions seeking answers for information about immigration, where to get this or that and so on are becoming fewer and far between. Perhaps "issue of the week" could be a thread to use to post thoughts about whatever is presently, most vexing, forthcoming elections and the way things are going in Bali as a means of just keeping the forum alive. My most vexing issue at the moment is with the main Jalan Uluwatu road now upgraded, the improved footpaths have become highways for motor scooters and bikes. Watch your step as a pedestrian, but I suspect others may have more interesting issues to talk about.

Well I for one find Balipod very informative and it is my prescribed reading to start the day. The likes of Markit, Balifrog and others need to keep it alive. I for one will add my thoughts and what little knowledge I have of the life on the island as I get to it.

I'm not altogether sure there's a point to keeping it alive really? When I came 15 years ago there was a wave of like minded new arrivals from many countries, many of which darkened the pages of this forum. But most of those brave soles and the ones that never made it here to Balipod but nevertheless came to live on these golden/ebony shores have either died or left due to the hardships of volcanoes, earthquakes, covid or just the day to day idiocy of surreal Balinese life. To be frank I don't see the new wave of the war refugees, the many "influencers" or digital gonads having any of the commitment or just plain interest to want to learn and dig into the details of Bali life that the Balipod was so useful to all of us for. Most of them never make it out of Cangu - and DON'T EVEN WANT TO. I know it's a parody for old farts to hohum about the youth of today, but really! What a shower of useless trans, woke, conspiracy shit they all seem to be!

Hello All, I am still here living in East Bali, trying to carry on in a positive way as much possible. I do think the Baliforum should stay alive also. I remember when I first started posting and how I got such a thrashing from Markit and others. HarryOpal was one of the only ones with a little compassion. It was shocking getting such Tahe from folks, but I realized it was just the way the old crustys break you in. Luckily I was tough enough to take it. Thank you for the new Whisky wrinkles on my guitar! I could complain about getting things done here like good medical help, reasonable transport. I had a dream that if I tried to live here and give love and compassion and generosity with money it would return in folks really caring about me but that was just a dream. I realize I am just a walking ATM and will always be that. If some of you had better luck then good on you. It seems to me that being from a foreign country will always keep me in a box. I have come to accept it and still like living here. The life in the West is not any better, just more expensive. So lets keep the forum alive and encourage new people to join. Just don't scare the shit out of them.

Your all time biggest mistake was to live in Padang Bai I presume from the name? PB is the worst shit hole on Bali, the most unfriendly people with the all time worst characters! It's a total disaster full of sack-slicers (give me money because you offend me) and screaming pouncers (use my ticketing/scooter/guide services or I'll beat you) hot and ugly. I hate it ever time I've had to go there for a ferry. I have friends there that think I can't stand them because I won't visit. Move immediately PB is not Bali.

Thanks Markit, I agree about the lack of communication due to different languages. I have learned enough Bahasa Indonesian to street talk. Luckily a couple of folks speak broken English. I used to live in Ubud years ago, but it has gotten too fast and commercial for me and I'm not a digital gonad as you call them. They can have the yoga, gyms, Canggu, Uluwatu, and the Gili's. I came to Padangbai for years to enjoy Beas Tugal beach. Since I retired I decided to come here and live. I have a comfortable hotel and set up my own kitchen with WiFi. I agree money seems to be the grease for the wheels, but it's the same everywhere I believe. I am single so I don't want to go live far away from town alone, and have to cook, clean, hire Pembantu's and deal with the Banjar. I would like to someday have a couple of beers and play some pool with you in Candidasa. Now that the covid crisis is over maybe some places have opened back up. I enjoy going to Beas Tugal Beach for snorkelling and planning to spend a few days there some time in the next week or so. Are you still staying at Celagi Inn?

Hi Harryopal, nice of you to ask. Yes I am still here at Celagi. I live upstairs above the reception desk. Come anytime, I would to meet after all these years. You seemed to be one of the kinder old crustys from the forum. Helpfull at times. Thanks. Unfortunately i slipped on the wet tiles and got a hairline fracture on my right leg, so I am bedriiden for awhile. Iwent to the BIMC hospital yesterday and it was pathetic. They didn't know how to get me out a car into a wheelchair or put me up the x-ray table. All kids as staff just pushing clipboards in your face with bills before even helping you. They said I had a mild fracture and that I should Dr. Wien to cut me open and put a plate over the fracture. I went to him two years ago for a torn rotary cuff. He said would fix it with equipment from the States, but all is did was scrap some bursitis from between the bones. So now I am left with a dislocated shoulder, and I can't lift my arm above my waist without using my other arm to lift. I think he is an impostermposng as Bali's best bone doctor. What a joke. If anyone on the forum ever need orthopedic work, Don't let that man touch you. They say they want create International quality hospitals in Sanur. Hah. What a joke. If it's staffed like any other hospital in Bali it will full of a bunch of young kids that just stand at the reception desk looking at their phones. Any way I'm sorry Harry for ranting. I needed to get it off my chest. So please stop by if your going to the beach. This a nice place to stay overnight you you so desire. Great rooftop view for breakfast, hot showers, nice rooms.
