This is the first time I'll be returning to Indonesia with a spouse sponsored kitas. My kitas is valid for 1 year, do I need to show a ticket out of the country before that date or is there no need for that with a kitas?

If you have the visa in your passport which you got from an embassy and now moving to Indonesia, then no you shouldn't have to show a return ticket to the airline or immigration. The airline may question you, but you just need to explain it is permanent visa for Indonesia. Call their manager if necessary.

Thanks Spicyayam, I have the multiple entry stamp in my passport along with a plastic card/permit. I got it in Indonesia, but haven't been out of the country since. Last time when I didn't have it yet I had to book a return ticket on the spot when checking in from Europe. I assume there is no need for that, but just checking to be sure ;).
