Sorry to hear about your wife. I met a lady yesterday in my cancer surgeon's treatment centre who also had a stomach tumor that was too close to vital organs to be surgically removed. She was on chemo-therapy to shrink. It was working and she was very bubbly...both in personality and physique...:icon_e_biggrin:Chemo-therapy has come a long way in recent years...I'm half-way through my program and don't suffer any real effects. In fact, I've put on weight since my appetite has improved...but that's probably coz I've given up the devils blood...booze (temporarily).I hear ya on what frivolity we spend our money....it is only now that I'm mature that I wonder why I spent all that cash in the Chin Chin Bar in Hong Kong...on gin for me and vodka cocktails for the Filipina singer...:icon_rolleyes:Edit: for comparison...a visit to the surgeon included checking my surgical scar; my weight...his scales lie; my blood results... noting that uric acid was high caused by the chemo; a prescription for that and a prescription for another cycle of chemo-therapy pills (70).Total bill for the visit Rp 215,000 (AUD 21)My creatinine level was also high but this was explained...it appears, like me trying to be superman, fasting for 12 hours for the blood test without anything gets the kidneys dehydrated and creatinine will be high. One must drink plenty water during fasting to flush the kidneys.btw we buy our prescription medicine in Adhi Guna Farma in Denpaser...the cheapest in town...it must be as all the locals go there.

My wife talked to her galpal who went to Singapore for her mastectomy surgery recently. She said she spent one night in hospital and, including her surgery, cost around Rp100,000,000. She recuperated in a hotel. It's difficult to assess but I'd say my comparable cost was Rp60,000,000 in Bali. I couldn't move after surgery so colon and breast cancer surgery probably cannot have a clear comparison...but does permit some. She has to fly back for treatments and each doctor's visit costs Rp1,250,000. I drive 20 mins to my surgeon or GP and get treatment for between Rp150,000 and Rp215,000.I'd be interested to see comparables in Penang hospitals.I recognise I'm only talking costs and not clinical treatments but my surgery, done in Bali, is completely successful.

I hope your wife will get well soon, Sir.By the way, I choose Sanglah Hospital, because I feel comfort with this hospital facility, when I'm tired and boring as visitor (I'm visit my Aunty), I can go to the garden and sit on the utdoor furniture to get my relaxation. You can feel tired and bored at the same time when you in the hospital.

Thanks for your kind words jorucel. My wife's treatment ceased 2 months ago (she is now in remission). Yesterday her specialist told us no need to return for next checkup until mid August. Yes I agree it does get very tiring and stressful sitting around in hospital rooms waiting for information.
