Reminds me of promotions to tour the outback and meet the wonderful characters. Stone the crows, wonderful characters? Pull up at many of these little outbackpubs and usually there are three or four "wonderful characters" sitting on stools, leaning on the bar half stung if not totally pissed and with conversation much like in the video. The classic 1971 film Wake in Fright captured the ugly side of many Australian characters. Well OK I will admit that there are a lot of guys who talk in a similar way but its not so typical as people seem to think. There is intelligent life down under but you're not gonna find it in the average Pub or Club. After working in the Mining industry for many years I can tell you that the work ethic displayed by this guy is in no way typical. Yeah a lot of tradies will do anything to avoid paying tax and if you look at the way the Aussie government tax the working man it really isn't surprising. When I was working full time the amount of tax I paid on a monthly basis was diabolical. By the way I'm English and lived in Australia for around 40 years before coming to Bali. I've frequented many Pubs and Clubs around Australia and haven't met too many guys like this one.

I should state I'm at least to a degree taking the piss. It's funny because it borders on reality. There definitely IS random guys like that out there. I more or less posted it for you all to have a laugh to be honest. It was just a that mix of it all, the tax evasion, the shitty tradie type jobs, the drugs and excessive alcohol. That is very much what goes on in Australia. Of course there is people more intelligent and we can't paint the whole country with the same brush but let's just say I found it really funny and made me wonder why I want to even go back there. It just somehow reminds me of so many people when I grew up in the lower class factory area postcodes. So really, kick back and have a laugh, of course to be taken with a grain of salt and satire in mind.

Saw for the first time not 1 year ago and was massively impressed, not with the the life style but the gritty reality, as the critics call it, and the pure drunken sweaty heat of it all - my Oz mate was able to confirm that there were many elements of absolute reality in it. A long way from Crocodile Dundee indeed.

Not that far off reality of some people I met, reminded me of one guy in particular I grew up with in WA who crashed his Harley in to a truck pissed and is now deceased. A different era. I doubt they ever imagined we'd be watching it on our iphones almost 50 years later.
