Just been watching a rivetting interview with an ex-North Korean girl (Yeonmi Park) about her life there and her escape to China when she was only 13. She continues to say how badly she was treated by the Chinese and how she again escaped through Mongolia. This girl is now an activist to help the world understand the situation vis-a-vis North Korea and how she helps others to escape that country...very inspiring as she communicates her ideas so well. She concedes that she was, like all North Koreans, indoctrinated by the system...but how others can help to change that regime. I want to get the book and will visit Gramedia but, meanwhile, if anyone can instruct me how to download the book 'In order to live' I'd appreciate that info. (I have C.C.)Thanks in advance.

what kind of ebook reader do you have?

Anyone wanting to download the worlds books would be best served to go here: https://balipod.com/forum/threads/book-junkie-buying-used-books-in-good-condition.4302/And check out the advice from your's truly post number 7.The instructions have changed a bit but are largely the same. I'm now using a client called ClicksandWhistles (ClicksAndWhistles - Download) which is fairly simple to use.Once you are logged on to CaW "@search nameofauthorYou will be asked if you want to d/l the list of books they have found - do so and then copy and past the line up to for instance: !Pizzagirl In Order to Live - Yeonmi Park.epub ::INFO:: 7.79 MiBall in red, leaving out the rest. Enter then wait for it to d/lSometimes you have to try several different ones to find an active source.Good reading

Thanks for the advice markit but I couldn't find the book...it was only released 6 months ago so probably not available on internet yet...at least not for free.I searched and found Periplus has it in stock but not sure which stores. I'll check out tomorrow.....or in Jakarta as I'm off there on Tuesday.I'd really like the paper editions anyway as I guess I'm just old-fashioned.... but I confess to subscribing to E-Jakarta Post (paper edition) and get it much earlier than ever was delivered...at less than half the price.

Don"t click on the naughty pics of young ladies on the kat site (kickass torrents)1. its just a scam2. you are too old
ronb
As Geedee says, it is on Kickass Torrents, I just downloaded it - it is in epub format. If you are not at ease with torrent sites, and PM me an email address I will send it as an attachment. It is about 8 megabytes. Adobe Digital Editions is a good epub reader that you can get on your PC - but there are many others. I prefer to read ebooks on my Samsung tablet using an app called Moon+ Reader - but again there are many others.

Thanks to all...Market, Spicyayam, RonB, Geedee, Denpasarhouse.I managed to download the book using Torrent, as suggested, but couldn't open as appears I didn't have an appropriate reader... I tried all the advice but kinda getting lost when I stumbled on Freda epub for windows 10, which I installed, and now I can read the book in very clear white on black (good for my failing eyes). No need to buy the book as this is much clearer on my 19inch screen.I think I'll be very busy reading books from now on as I'm medically 'Off the Booze' for maybe 5 more months...I'll probably end up being one of those book-geeks :abnormal: and it's you guys that are to blame...J/K Thanks so much for the great advice.

Just finished the book "In order to Live' by Yeonmi Park....fascinating and I predict will be a movie. It's a story about a horrible life that I have no conception of...even I've spent most of my life in Asia with all its squalor, corruption and poverty it bears no resemblance to the life this young woman has faced.I'm not naive to also believe there may be some propoganda involved, but nevertheless...this is a story I'll not forget. So thanks to all of you who've shown me how to read books on my computer.

To all those electronic book readers out there I'd like to hear your recommendations for the best e-reader. I have had several Kindle iterations and tried reading on the computer but found it not comfortable enough. In recent years I've turned, or returned, to using my iphone (preeesssssuuuioussss) and have gotten the Kindle reader app for that. I'm not really interested in all the bells and whistle such "annotation" or "online dictionary" but simply want to have the handiest way to conveniently and comfortably read a book. Any thoughts?
spicyayam
I have an old generation Kindle, works fine for me. I hardly have to charge it, unlike most other electronic devices. I was thinking of getting the newer paper-white ones. What didn't you like about the Kindle?

What didn't you like about the Kindle?
Went with the original Kindle but that wasn't any good for reading in bed at night with bad light conditions and then after a while it/they got this shadow thing that the old etcha-sketch (sp) used to get showing the previous page at the same time as the new one. Went to paperwhite but that was too heavy to hold for a long time and did my eyes in - after all it's just the usual video display and not the e-ink thingy of the originals and had battery issues too (but nothing like the fecking iphone preeeeessssiousss - not!)The iphone apple reader is wasteful of page size with only a few words on it before you have to page - kindle app much better and better page turning too. Anal retention on over drive....

I use a free app called Aldiko on my Android tablet. Both work perfectly for me.
ronb
Yes, besides allowing you to read, Calibre is good at managing a large ebook collection on your PC and synchronizing a selected subset of them to your tablet (assuming storage on your tablet is more limited than on your PC)
