There were so many reports of how bad the Delta variant hit Indonesia and while it has been devastating, hasn't the turnaround been quite miraculous?
I am just wondering how this was done, since there were restrictions, I don't think they get too closely followed.
Has it been vaccination alone? Why don't we hear any reports about this? Kind of similar to India.
Any thoughts on this?

Must admit I've been asking myself the same question. My first thought was that there was a fault in the reporting system but with each day showing a decline in cases I guess that's being pessimistic. My lady and I have been going into Denpasar to do our shopping at Tiara Dewata and I am amazed at the number of people I see either without masks or masks worn under the chin. This is not in the store itself but in the streets in the surrounding area. I think that there must be some truth in the comment regarding the vaccination rates. It's the only logical answer I can think of.

Maybe less testing? And maybe that's why those kabupatens have stopped allowing public access to those records?

Less testing = less covid cases. USA is the best country in the world when it comes to testing...hence they have the most covid cases. It's not rocket science people.

However quickly we move to targeted levels of vaccination, the fly in the ointment is that by next year there is likely to be another variant and more questions about the effectiveness of whatever vaccines are available at the time. Any travel hopes or bookings to be made in expectation of things being better next year ought well be made only if refunds are available for cancellations.

Much as it would be great to think this pandemic is drawing to a close have to be a bit dubious concerning the numbers. My only interest in Facebook has been following Jackie Pomeroy’s column reporting from the various kabupatins and she has suddenly been deprived of those stats by the powers that be and we can wonder why?
Only 43% of Bali‘s population has 2 shots and that is along way to go before the masks should come off. We all certainly wish to see closure, but this virus is just too contagious to draw any conclusions from the recent downturn of new cases and assume they are legitimate.

That is definately a concern , we shall see what the future holds , quite a unique period in my life .

I believe that the world is slowly coming to the realization that we can do nothing about this virus and it's more infectious variants and eventually we will all become "exposed" to it. If that means "sick" or just "infected" depends upon your immune system and whether you've been vaccinated and had your top-up shot too.
The situation in Indonesia is a special one in that the rationed supply of vaccine has been intentionally pointed at 2 goals, Bali and Jakarta and the only surprising thing about that is that the other 200 million Indonesians haven't rioted yet.
If you believe, as do I and many others, that we will all get the virus then there is really no point in taking any more precautions against infection such as distancing, border controls, masking, counting numbers, etc, etc.
Thankfully I've had my 2 shots and am able to distance myself from the majority of humanity and also have my bottle of ivermectin at the ready - belt and braces anyone?

Had the delta variant 2 months ago. I've had bouts of diarrhea that were worse than that. I realize I am one of the lucky ones but gotta say...it didn't make these extreme lockdown measures look any better in my eyes. Covid's a breeze for the vast majority. Open the world back up and let's just get on with it.

I believe Israel said something similar...now they are are on their 4th booster shot for citizens yet the cases continue to climb over there.

It is not the fact that a virus is highly infectious that is the issue,it is how virulent it is. The common cold is highly infectious but we don't see world governments committing economic suicide as a result. My armchair virology studies indicate that viruses naturally mutate and generally become less virulent. I think i read somewhere that the deadly Spanish flu that killed millions mutated into a form of the common cold. Charles Darwin understood this, it is called natural selection. If the virus kills off its host then it will not survive because the end result is that it will have killed off all its pathways to sustainability. So breathe in the air , have a beer, stop pamicking and get that useless mask off your face.

Without putting too fine a point on any of this,
I had been dropping the local data in in a spread sheet daily till the gov changed the info on their page recently. I guess loss that lines up with Jackie Pomeroy’s FB but I have never seen her FB.
Before that I followed the international data closely for the last year before the finding the local official release but basically the international offering been statistical garbage when you actually work with the figures, every country has different criteria, what qualifies a case or admission, update cycles, some countries apparently even outright falsified data, in hindsight some of that makes sense. Local data was something that could be compared to local real world anywhere non urban, I wondered why AU did not provide a localized break down like Bali, no doubt they would have it. Here it was a source of comfort and it is a pity to loose it. But in Australia's case I think I now know why. It seemed like another planet down there at the best of times.
I saw an official document in a gov.Id website authorising ivermectin use in Indonesia following the Indian lead some time ago, they claimed a state of 240 million whose name I forget covid free after ivermectin use. Maybe some knows further on this?
I see a mention of the old "wake in fright" movie, somewhat an exaggeration even at the time of the film, but being a country boy I remember plenty of 2 up games, publicans guests after closing at 6PM, charging through the bush on shooting expeditions, spotlighting. But I dont remember grog and guns ever being mixed. However that is all set in the lucky country that has been gone for a very long time now.
This forum which I don't frequent as often as I should, is as close to social media as I ever go. But if you see whats going on in Au right now anywhere outside of MSM, FB, google, YT or twitter et al. Melbourne of late is reminiscent of the Wake In Fright roo shoot but its police? against Aussies. If the 30,000? supposed Aussies stranded overseas are still wanting to back to that, I have question their sanity.
