Good time to travel in Bali

There is some absolutely beautiful and breathtaking waterfalls in Bali and it's always a nice change from the heat of the city. Thanks for reminding me I might just embark on a similar journey one day soon. And I agree about the traffic, been like 5x it's usual at least around here also, if not more like 10x. I actually don't go out after dark often because of how much the traffic is increased. More so than that there are some young' n's around who drive a scooter like madmen and I don't want to get wiped out and have to deal with the associated problems.

I have been to that waterfall also. It wasn't busy even pre-covid. Sunday traffic was quite busy and busy yesterday in Denpasar. Went past a big ceremony going on. Many people wearing a mask under their chin. I hope we don't see another wave like in India right now.

Assuming one masks up and takes sensible precautions, given the future uncertain outlook for tourism in Bali now is probably about a good a time as it gets to travel within Bali. However, I made the mistake of travelling north through Mengwi on Sunday forgetting that is a special day on the Balinenese calendar. Heavy traffic and lots of motore bike groups heading towards Danau Buyan and Danau Beratan. That was bad enough but somewhere before Beratan Temple there were roadworks with half then road closed and a macet that took an hour or more to get out the other side. Purpose was heading to Munduk and this morning did the Munduk Melanting waterfall trek taking a small track that connects with the track from Melanting waterfall car park. About two hours there and back and not another soul in sight. Had the waterfall to myself. Sunday and special days aside it is a treat to drive without the loads of tourist buses and heavier traffic.

I've also made the mistake of going for an outing on a public holiday. A few years back I decided to go to the Botanic Gardens in Bedugul on New Year's day. A typical 1.5 hour trip took three as every local family in Bali seemed to have had the same idea as me. And on top of that, it pissed down so hard we couldn't really tour the gardens. Lesson learned.

Left Manjangan this morning and stopped at the Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and had some fruit beside the lake. This time the traffic was light until the urban areas and the roadworks had no back up at all. Such a contrast to Sunday. A sprinkling of people around the temple and the carpark pretty empty.

They've had a series of articles over the years with lots and lots of out of the way great things to see and do that you will probably drive right on passed if you don't know where to look. Well worth the effort.
