I've never been able to use the VPN to use iplayer in the UK - the message I get.

If we detect that you might be using a VPN, you'll be unable to play programmes. This is because we need to be confident you're in the UK, and if you're using a VPN or proxy, we can't detect reliably where you are.
If you are able to use your VPN to access the Beeb I'd be interested in how that might work?
Hi
Yes companies are getting smarter, it's a bit cat and mouse with people like us trying circumvent restrictions. Sky Sports is especially hard as they don't like VPNs and they also check the clock on your pc against the time in their country (UK) and other stuff. So you need to fudge your clock too. With regard to the VPN, the BBC will have a list of known VPN IP addresses, that they automatically block. However they won't have every IP address for every VPN UK server in the world, so maybe try a different VPN (smaller lesser known one probably better for this) and don't forget to change the default server to a UK one for BBC. If still no luck you could alternatively just use a UK proxy server. Just google SOCKS 5 proxy. You can buy them cheap enough, then copy and paste server details into your browser network settings. Again just google this for how to videos, it's not hard. SOCKS 5 is actually better for streaming as VPNs can be slow due to high traffic and the encryption that isn't really neccessary for not data sensisistive stuff like watching videos.
