Metter When we returned to Bali in September we took out travel insurance till the date we were due to go back to Australia. We are now staying for the rest of the year. The " already left" travel insurance options are more limited now, and would cost about $3,000 Australian for us both till the end of the year.. Given I don't have a Kitas is health care affordable in an emergency. Whilst options for repatriation for treatment in Australia seem worth having I am guessing with Covid it may not.be a simple option anymore. Is self funding viable or are there better options for insurance for local healthcare available if on a visa? I.havr looked at some of the banks offerings but these seem to be saving schemes rather than insurance.
Markit Health care and if it's affordable in emergency here? Depends on the emergency doesn't it, or maybe not. There is no simple answer to this oft asked question but it largely depends on your age. For those of us over 60 it's very expensive - and coverage is very limited to non-pre-existing conditions and frankly who doesn't have those after 60? And on how much you are willing to pay yourself before the insurance kicks in. This hasn't been any help I'm sure but just to give you an initial feel for the subject. Suggest you also use the search facility here as this has been asked 1000s of times. Most of us oldies have decided to self-insure as the costs of normal treatment are fairly low here and even more serious things are on a par with that.
spicyayam My sister in law is an agent for Allianz and I am sure that you need a KITAS. You could try SafetyWing which promotes itself as insurance for digital nomads: https://www.safetywing.com/?referenceID=24730902
tel522 In my experience allianz does not work well ,customer service is hopeless in a crisis ,if you compare it to the likes of bupa international etc ,where 1 call solves all your problems ,
ronb An example of an emergency is broken bones from a motorbike accident. You find yourself in a hospital and they want to go ahead with metal implants etc and maybe suggesting a total cost around 100 juta - and it is true that without KITAS they quote using higher rates. So you need quick access to money possibly with help from friends who can access ATM or can pay with credit card or whatever. The hospital requires money before proceeding. Hope that helps.
