Full time maid, live in or out?

Mrs Metter and I are looking at floor plan designs for what may be our home into older person years. The need for a maid will likely increase and I think full time will be realistic at some point. If we go the pathway of live in then now, when planning the build, is a sensible time to plan a maid's room. What are the pros and cons.of both options and is provision for live in a sensible step or waste of money? Are thoughts will be well received.

I had both. I like it better if the maid is not living in my house. The classic #stranger perhaps in my kitchen when I'm going naked to the fridge etc... If possible and next time I build I will build a small house(s) for maid (nurse, driver etc) on the plot.

Built a staff house but it has never been used (thankfully - agree with Sakumabali's naked dash) because our staff are local and part of the usual Balinese extended family and want to go home AND my place isn't nearly holy enough (read blessed and prayed over with all the holy temples and shit) to conform to the Balinese norm that would make them comfortable living there and I wasn't willing to spend the IDR 5,000,000 to get it so. Spent it on beer instead :p

Truly think you make too much of a commitment when providing for a maid’s quarters. There are too many things that can happen that would create problems. Am on my third maid in less than 2 years. One was found dishonest, one became pregnant, and now currently satisfactory, but for how long? If they live on site you may well have problems evicting or battling your conscience.

Ended up converting my staff house into a gym which also never got used! the wife's cousin is living in there at the moment which he prefers to our also empty guesthouse, we ended up building a small room and bathroom on to the utility building so she has her privacy and you do get use to them pottering around, the gardener lives outside he comes and goes as he pleases and never does what you ask until he feels like doing it (annoys the missis) but he's a good kid, all part of the fun.

If reading correctly she lives in? Can I ask size of room you provide and if not attached to the house what you provide ( stove etc). Thank you all for your advice. I like this idea of outside the main house to prevent being seen naked in the kitchen etc.

The maid room in our house is 3x3 and a shower/toilet next to it. I think that's a standard size, there is Big house up the road and they have a house next to it for the maids, drivers, gardeners. I think everyone in our street has maids, I asked my wife and she said NO:p

Yes she lives in during the week and goes to stay with family on Saturday night, the original staff house was 4m x 5m complete with kitchen bathroom and small porch, we found the kitchen was hardly ever used and seemingly never cleaned! Now the bedroom is around 2m x 2m enough for a single bed small wardrobe and table, actually the bathroom isn't square and turned out 1.9m x 2.9m, there's plenty of compact designs around you could get away with something much smaller, as it's not far from the kitchen so we didn't provide any cooking facilities, saying that my family's Indonesian so there's always rice cooking.
