Hi JillI am afraid I do not know much about Lombok Pearls or rather I should say I know practically nothing but one of our other members here knows a lot about them & will hopefully pick up on this thread. As for being wworth a day trip.... Do you mean a day trip from Bali? No I would not think it is really worth it though I know that there are agents that offer it as an option. You will spend most of your time travelling & the joy about Lombok is havng the time to relax & to get to know the people. Defintely worth a stay though but then I am biased of course!Gemma

Hi JillLombok grows some sea pearls - a few are for sale here in Lombok mostly through retail shop outlets. The ones available here are so-so quality, compared say to Broome pearls. I have heard that the really good ones go straight overseas. The other type of pearl commonly available here are fresh-water pearls. Lombok has become well known for them. They are not grown here, actually they are from China (where most fresh-water pearls come from) and come to Lombok either via Surabaya or are directly imported from Hong Kong. There are some very nice fresh-water pearls for sale here, as well as a lot of junk. Unfortunately the beach sellers tend to mainly sell the junk because they want to buy the cheapest possible strings to sell at the highest possible price.Where you looking for anything in particular?KarenThat being said, not all the sellers have total junk, so if you have a good eye you can pick some nice ones.
