Bali curious Family of 5

Hi all. As a surfer I have always had Indo on my mind. Now as a family of 5 I'm hoping we have the right tools in place to at least have a gap year in Bali. Theres so much info out there, almost too much, and the opinions vary widely. We would have a budget of $4100 USD a month to spend freely. Im trying to paint the picture of what this budget would look like for us. My wife is open to the idea but I need some real info to make the sales pitch to her... Thanks for any help.

Does that include rent? Either way it's enough but different people have different standards, 100,000 IDR not much for some and plenty for others. If you want to throw out some more specific questions what your asking. eg food, rent, transport electricity be happy to answer my experiences, though Mark is correct search and you shall find.

I suppose that's 2 adults and 3 kids ? In that case it will mainly depends of the age of the kids IMO. Schooling ? As long you dont plan to pay international school for 3 kids, 4100 USD seems pretty confortable to me. Be aware of the visa expenses. If you need to do visa runs for 5, that will add up...

It might be premature if you (Father Figure 5) are hoping that 2021 might be your "gap year." Events are a long way from being settled enough to set about any rational planning. With such a high rate of infections and such a large population with relatively limited health resources Indonesia will, I suspect, be seen by many countries as a high risk destination for quite some time. Apart from Indonesia, developed countries with a much greater resource capacity seem also to be still a long way from being able to travel without the possibility of enforced quarantining going or coming.

All in at 4100 a month is our budget. We are pretty low key, I am used to traveling on very little, but my wife may need a bit more comfort than I especially with the kids. We home school the kids now and would continue to. Don't really party or drink so our money would just go toward housing, food, exploring. Am I correct that Visa runs could cost us $360 a month?

I would suggest checking current visa requirements with an agent as it appears that some things have changed. Obviously leaving the country on a visa run isn’t required. Secondly if you could have all family members vaccinated for the virus, and the visa needs done the rest would remain doable. There are are numerous modern homes for rent in the south of Bali near surfing areas at reasonable rates. While various good surfing destinations locate in west Bali where you also may find long term deals from now near vacant hotels. Good luck.

If you are looking at a single year talk to an agent about a social visa is most likely the way to go, with payable extensions at the end of each month and currently the requirement to leave Indonesia is waived, eg the visa can be extended/reset by meeting the requirements while on land and paying the fees. The old "visa run" method you are quoting, that cost was mainly airfares. Right this second the border is closed but things are constantly changing, keep a weekly check on it is what I would recommend.
