Your best bet as far as my experience has been is to locate a Javanese guy. All the nurseries seem to be owned by Javanese, and most Indonesian tukangs do what they view as their calling.

Now should be the best time to find one as all the hotels have let go most of their staff - cooks/cleaners/pool and gardener guys. If it was me Id print a handout listing what you want done and how much you will pay and stick it to the lamp posts in Kerbokan with your number and ask for an SMS ONLY detailing their experience and last job had. Then contact the last job and ask about them. Hire the good one.
