Arriving next Friday at about 3.30pm so should be on the road by 4.30pm1. Length of time to get To Candi Dasa .2. Where to change money on the way or wait till Candi Dasa (need local currency before arriving at hotel)ThanksHappy new year
geedee
Allow 2+ hours to Candidasa. That should be more than enough. But depends on time of day, whether raining or not, etc.GD, if I was you I would use an ATM along the way to w/draw as much as you need for the next day or two. Do not do it at the airport under the advice of local. Then look around for the 'best rate' if you are needing to convert cash.If it's 1 or 2 thousand then not a big deal. The AUD today has this rate: You can expect to get close to that. Up to you.If you are here for a week I'd just be using the ATMs and leave it at that.If you go to Lovina then use TipTop on the main road to convert cash. And don't forget to have around 2 million for the outbound trip, just to be sure.
Is that using the new road/bypass or whatever it's called? It suits me to use cash so I need a money changer. Why would I need 2 mill for outbound trip the departure tax is now included in the ticket

Look around for a money changer. Here, in Central Lovina there is more than 1 M/chgr.
I'm not asking about Lovina my question is Airport - Candi Dasa need Money changer Which one ?? Well when you get to the airport to go home the prices are in IDR Rp.If you have some spare and aren't coming back real soon then you can use them to buy meals, chocs or whatever.Otherwise, just keep them for next trip. Up to you.I use them on the plane and I always come back so I have enough for all that.I can go to Darwin and back on 2jt incl driver, drinks and meals no worries. It doesn't hurt to have that cash on you.
Ah ok see what your saying. I will definitely have enough IDR for food etc

Sweetheart. Read my lips. I don't fn know. I said use ATMs. Because you will get 4% - laydown mezzaire. Is that going to send you broke for a week in Bali? But, if you want to spend half a day dragging your boardshorts and Nikes around CandiDasa looking for the best rate then be my guest.Up to you. I wouldn't waste my time with that $hit. But, you might just get $0.50c more. Is it really worth it?I thought you had one wife and at least one kiddywink. TIP: At the outbound part of the airport there is a Chinese resto on the corner where you enter the 'departure' section - where the backpackers all sit on the floor, leaning against the wall. Go to that Chinese resto (not cheap) and have something there. It is called Duck something. Then you won't need to gulp down airline food. I recommend the Gui Ling Gao - black tea jelly with honey - soooo nice. It's on the last few pages of the menu. Let me know how you go.
Well if you don't know then PLEASE don't answer.I am not trying to find the best rate in Bali I need to use cashI clearly asked MONEY CHANGER not ATM , not Lovina things, not Chinese restaurant, not how much money i need to leave with ,not how much YOU need for driver and food when you go to Darwin, not black tea with Honey and Gui Ling Gao.Can someone normal please answer this.Oh and happy new year to you PSW

But you are talking diddly-squat.My answer is this: use an ATM. Easy. Enjoy your holiday.Forget trying to make this an exercise in Foreign Exchange. It's not enough to worry about. If you are talking in the hundreds of thousands of dollars then, yes, timing is the key to it.Because you can 'lose' enough to buy a car, for example.Ask me how I know.
I don't care. You remind me of my ex wife not listening ,just wanting to say what you want. You probably don't mean it but you are very annoying. P.S. Anyone in North Bali willing to cut the phone lines of PSW I will pay

I reckon you should stop off at Sanur on your way to Candidasa. This one seem reputable, but I've never used them.Poso - BaliBestRate.comIf you don't like them you can just ask your driver to keep heading north on the main drag of Sanur until you find one that's acceptable.

LOLYou are a funnicant. But you won't be able to pay for a severed phone line until you get a money changer.BTW they will try to rob you blind. You will see. One hopes.Use xe.com to educate yourself ahead of time. Pick the day. Then 'strike' and do your exchange.I will be really interested how you go. Are you doing, like, a hundred grand? Or even 50 grand?Tell us ALL how much.We all live with this - changing money along the line.If there was an Uncle Sam's that had the best price in Bali we'd know and we'd tell you. But, there isn't. Because they are basically money-hungry, cheating, thieving, stealing bastards.Just use ATMs and relax while you are here. When you get a case of 'binny's' to take to farkwit's house then use your credit card.Up to you. You are a big boy and traipsing all over East Bali for the 'best rate' for a few hundred bucks is a mug's game.
What's up with you ? I just need to change a few hundred dollars to pay for hotel and driver and some spare cash for a day or so
geedee
Exactly. Not a big deal.Just use a fricken ATM and then 'problem solved'.A few hundred dollars is naff all mate. You'll need at least a grand if you are thinking like that. What if your kid wants to buy something?Etc.
Yes you have sort of got it now it's no big deal. But as usual you are not listening or reading the question. I get a bit of cash now and again which I need to use so no to ATMs. I will change cash as I go along. Please consider this thread closed to YOU. Please please please
geedee
Global DiscriminatorJust use a fricken ATM and then 'problem solved'. What is so hard about that. You are not exactly 'Mr Big' so what's the drama. You asked, and you have been told. Simple. For a few hundred AUDs, use an ATM.If 1-2-3 hundred grand then completely different response. Timing is of the essence there, for sure.I am nothing like your fn ex-wife. Regardless of who she is. And that says a lot about you. (I stole that line.)I am waiting for Grogwit to wade in here with his sub-molecular interpretation of what a banana actually is.
I think johnnycools diagnosis of you wasn't exactly right it's obviously much much worse. Now please read this next bit carefully I'm a hypnotist. Your eyelids are getting heavier and heavier , you need to sleep sleep sleep sleep sleep

There are now about 3 ATMs in Candi Dasa but the money changer is just next door to Vincents (or one away). The banks in Amlapura won't be much help as you will be here on Friday evening so I would suggest get about $100 worth at the money changer in the airport - they aren't that bad. Management is there any way you can build a button that allows us to spring over Paul's meanderings to the next sensible answer?

Guys, you are talking $100. Stop peeing into the wind. Use an ATM. How hard is that. One hundred dollars. That's not a lot and certainly not enough to make enemies over. One hundred dollars.GD, you cheap ar$e.And, as for you, Karangasem's finest oxygen thief, why don't you buy your kid a TV, you cheap bastard. The poor little thing has a Dad who thinks he's hot stuff but your kid doesn't even have a fn TV. You cheap piece of c r a p . She sees you guzzling Bintangs but she doesn't have a TV to watch. And also get her a DVD player and a surround sound set of speakers with an amplifier and add in a sub-woofer. Let her watch Star Wars and/or Harry Potter or whatever she wants, you cheap piece of c r a p.Every night, you must get into bed with your wife and you smell like a brewery. That's OK if she is also an alco but if she is not then she notices your stink. You are a fn defeckt. You are defecktive.
1.You are progressively getting worse and destroying this forum. 2.I'll bet his kid speaks to him3. Nobody uses DVDs anymore. 4. Goodnight

Sorry to butt in, but if you have aussie dollars can you take them to ATM machine in Bali stick them in a hole and out pops Indonesian Rp????? Just change some at the airport I'm sure you know how to count.Change some on your way through sunar if the airport is too low.The bank in Surabaya is paying Rp 10850, but as you should get 9700 at the airport.
balibule
Hi Geedee if you are only changing a few hundreds then for convenience sake I would just do it at the Bali airport. Yes, the exchange rate will not be as good as on the street but the difference when changing a small amount will be little. The money exchange at the Bali airport is either at Bank Mandiri or Bank BRI. They both have a money exchange office just as you walk out of the terminal and before you get to the taxi stand. There are also a couple of ATM's nearby these two banks.

Personally, I have NEVER and will NEVER use an ATM in Bali, because card skimming is rife here. I only use the BCA card centre in jalan raya Kuta, where I hand over my credit card and withdraw Rp 10 million in one transaction. To avoid cash advance fees, I deposit money to my credit card account the day before, so I'm only withdrawing my own money. The exchange rate is good and only just below street rate. Or I bring cash from Australia and exchange at a reputable money changer.

A great way to use it is holidays or large purchases

I've been using ATMs in Bali for many years with zero problems.Sure there are some skimmers every now and then. If one is really worried, choose an ATM inside of a bank, rather than one in the street (just in case). My one and only problem with an ATM in Indonesia was on Bintan Island (Riau). The machine swallowed my card.
matsaleh
I don't think I'm being alarmist at all, JohnnyCool. I personally know of 4 people who live here full time or most of the year who have had their bank accounts depleted or emptied after using ATMs in Kuta/Legian/Seminyak areas. I'm not willing to take the chance.

BB - where is the taxi stand at the Int'l Airport? I can't recall seeing one. When I get there I walk firstly to the left, thru the store and then sharp right and into the thronging crowd, to meet my driver. Can't say I ever saw a taxi stand. We then go to the carpark and get out of there.
The taxi stand is after you pass the money exchange and just before you walk into the store. It's a semi circle counter and has been there for a long time
