Serious expired visa problem.

Just now watching ABC TV news and a warning that Australians with expired visas have untll Thursday to apply for a extensions or leave by Friday. Failure to do so will result in fines of $100 a day. With no direct flights now to Australia, people leaving will have to travel via Jakarta with increased Covid risk. And on arrival in Australia it will cost $3000 to be quarantined for 14 days. Alarming news for those caught out by this. .

Well I am not sure how many people will be caught on the hop with this. I can imagine that the immigration offices may well be packed tomorrow and with just four days..... ?

The people who it affects have known about it since day 1 of the lockdown. The government has given plenty of time to get extensions done. They are even allowing people to convert tourist visas to social visas. Some people have their applications knocked back for simple things like spelling mistakes in names and so forth, but all they need to do is to fix the error and resubmit. It just seems like the Australian news is trying to look for a news story that isn't there.

It seems like they have extended the deadline for another month. Check out the "Law and regulations in Indonesia" FB which seems to have the most reliable info. I saw the updated postponement until September 20. I do wonder how much local autonomy has Bali? Is it possible they might still insist on August 20 as a deadline?

As far as I'm aware Bali has zero local autonomy when it comes to immigration rules. Those are decided at the national level and implemented by civil servants. If the deadline has been extended to Sept 20, which I've heard as well, then it applies in Bali too.

Is it just me or is there something totally crazy about a lockdown that won't allow more than 400 or so people land in the country to keep it safe from a dreaded Chinese pandemic yet it's OK that the airplanes bringing people home transit through China?!!!?
