Hi folks,My wife and I lived in Bali for two years until June 2015, when we moved back to Canada. My wife would like to resume her consulting work with the Canadian government, but in order to do so she needs security clearance. And in order to get security clearance, she needs a "certificate" from the Indonesian police confirming the dates we lived in Indonesia and that my wife has no criminal record in Indonesia. The problem is, we stayed in Bali on a Sosbud visa, not a Kitas. So the Indonesian police are saying they can't issue her a certificate.I'm sure it must be possible to get a police certificate if we talk to the right person in Bali. Can anyone recommend a person to talk to?

You might get more sense by explaining to the Canadian authorities that you were only vacationing in RI and, as you didn't need a permanent visa, you would not appear on the Indonesian data other than as a tourist. Then suggest they don't record convictions other than serious felonies which would entail deportation and a note in the criminal's passport.I went thro' this crap when applying for an USA Green card. I religeously followed the rules and wrote down all the places I'd been then they demanded those security clearance docs. Some countries I'd been didn't exist anymore and others, due to wars and insurrections, had shred all documents since I was there, but those computerized interviewers don't process that kind of info and expect all the world works like they do.Needless I gave up the Green Card and lost the non-refundable US$1,000 deposit.

There is a relevant thread here, but seems difficult (or impossible) to get one without a KITAS: https://balipod.com/forum/threads/surat-keterangan-catatan-kriminal-skck.8096/

Foreigners can no longer get the SKCK but they can get a similar document called "rekomendasi catatan kepolisian". Maybe you don't need a kitas if you get the "rekomendasi catatan kepolisian" but I doubt it. The other change is that they changed the passport picture you need to bring from red background to yellow background.

Much appreciated, everyone. Davita, I especially like your points. My wife will pass those along to the people doing her security clearance.
