The downturn in tourism in Bali has been written about extensively due to the Coronavirus, but I haven't seen anyone talk about the impact of the cruise ship industry on the local economy. Many Balinese now work on cruise ships. They might work for months at a time, sending their salary back home. It is one of the few ways for them to earn a decent salary, to be able to buy a house/car.
I can't imagine too many people wanting to take a cruise for at least the next year or so, so I am sure layoffs will be inevitable.
