I am married to a Indonesian man and we had a child in 2005, after she was born we made her Indonesian passport and a few years later, without knowing the law number 12 year 2006, we made the mistake to make her the Spanish passport, we though it was something normal to do, beside we did it as well urgently for medical reasons, we took for granted she had dual citizenship already.
In March 2010 and 2015 we didn´t have any problems to renew her Indonesian passport in Renon but this time, two weeks ago the staff of the immigration office asked us for the registration letter in Jakarta and it was the first time in our life, we hear about that letter and the new law 2006, about the children born in Indonesia before 2006 from mix marriages, had to register in Jakarta in order to get the limited dual citizenship.
So it seems our daughter who was born in Indonesia, from an Indonesian father and living permanently always here, lost her Indonesian citizenship because we made her Spanish passport.
We had already a meeting with the head of immigration office in Denpasar but they told us without the letter from Jakarta they cannot do anything.
We already send an email to the Ministry of Hukum and Ham in Jakarta to explain the situation and asking a solution. I wonder of any of you have came across this situation as well and how did you sort it out or know somebody who has been in this situation. I know it must be more people like us, in theory we suppose to know the laws but I wonder how......
I read in one of the expat Indonesian forum, a man called Mark from Sanur has two boys in the same situation and had this problem in 2018.
They give time from 2006 to August 2010 to do the registration, but we never ever hear about this before, and in March 2010 we were able to renew her passport, that time on the immigration office if they knew the new law as well like now, they should have ask as well for that letter and we would have time to ask for the letter in Jakarta before the deadline in August 2010 and we would not be having this terrible and shocking situation!
