Learning to become a chef/bartender as a trade in Bali

I make this thread for my 21 year old Indonesian partner who is a great cook, but unfortunately stuck at home all day awaiting the few months a year I come from Australia. She had found the option to go to college and become qualified but the price is 14 Million, I am looking for something more like Tafe here in Australia where 3-4 Million will get you the hands on experience required to break in to the industry I have done a quick google, but it was mainly one day courses aimed at tourists - I am looking to fullfill something a bit more long term eg a few months. Any ideas?

There are many tourism colleges around our place. We have some students work at our place for work experience. They seemed to lack basic work skills so it made me wonder what the schools are teaching. Most of the schools help students find work on cruise ships. That is their aim which is why they are expensive. I think she could learn more from working in a more western run place.

Sadly I agree with your post spicy one of her uncles works away on cruise ship which seems to be their view of success. I don’t want her away for 9 months at a time hard enough me living in Australia her in Bali. Totally agree about the western run place just no idea how to get her own, so many tricks over there where they end up working for nothing - and I don’t mean low pay I mean literally nothing. Her bro did a full year unpaid to get hotel experience, just gets 1 meal a day. I just want to do something to help build her self esteem. I don't know about the course. I would suspect it is more for high school graduates. I don't think employers here worry too much about qualifications, especially in the tourism industry. It is all about work ethic. Working conditions are pretty terrible here in the informal sector. My suggestion would be to start a business that would offer more flexibility and the potential to make more money. I think there are a lot of different opportunities as long as you don't follow what many people here do, starting a restaurant/bar.
