spicyayam I don't know if it is always this busy at Christmas time. It just seems crazy this year. We stayed in Kuta for Christmas and now in Lovina and everywhere is busy. It seems like a lot more domestic tourists this year than usual.
Mark Agreed. Ubud has had monumental traffic jams the last couple days. One long term expat reported a four hour journey to the airport from central Ubud, with most of the delay in the Ubud area itself. Others have enjoyed 1.5 hour journeys to travel 2 or 3 kilometers. It came on suddenly, as last week was quiet as the proverbial mouse traffic wise.
Balifrog Was very busy on the ferry Gilimanuk to Banyuwangi on Saturday morning. In fact most busy I ever saw it since 2 years. But the whole trip from Sanur to 40km south of Banyuwangi took 6h which is still good. Of course departing at 04.30 am !
spicyayam Seems like it wasn't just my imagination: https://seminyaktimes.com/over-40-percent-jump-in-domestic-tourists-arriving-to-bali-by-car/ One thing which did surprise me was how easy it was to get a Grab car, even in the Kuta area. You read lots of horror stories about Grab, but the drivers were all honest and helpful. Unfortunately Grab in central Lovina has gone the way of Ubud and Canggu by not allowing drivers, even to order food. Ordering food from Singaraja restaurants is fine though.
gtrken Swore I never would again but stupid me did it anyway. Came over to Bali Dec 16th and 3 days later drove to Jakarta. Last time took around 24hrs and this time took around 19hrs thanks to the toll roads from Probolinggo onward. Traffic was still busy but at least it was moving. I wont do it again until they finish the Probolinggo to Banyuwangi section of the toll road. Getting stuck behind dangerously overloaded and super slow trucks is no fun. I just thought of it as a 1180Km road race and went for it. Poor little Diahatsu Xenia ... Bali side is still as bad as ever but really is only about 5Hrs of the journey. Coming back was only slightly better on Jan 3rd Cheers Yes I still watch the forum Ken
gtrken Markit wrote 2 years ago did Malang to Lovina in 10 hours, including ferry time.... on an Nmax :) With the traffic over the christmas period I reckon a bike would have been quicker anyway, especially on the Bali side
