Searching The Bukit of Tabanan?

Having scrounged around most all of Bali over the years yet have never taken the high road out of the City of Tabanan and meandered north eventually to Bedugal. Can anyone provide reasonably current information about driving north from the city through Penebel and perhaps Andsri and providing some idea of road conditions? Or even going further about hotel accommodations? Bedugal has been visited in the past from various approaches, but the depth of interior Tabanan remains a bit of a mystery. Any info. will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

May I make a suggestion Mugwump? Just go. Forget about getting advice and secondhand opinions. Rediscover the romance of travel before we could check everything and then double check with social media. Throw away your mobile phone. There is a lot to be said for finding out for yourself without any preconceived ideas. That is how it used to be and how I still like to travel. I never ask for advice. I want to discover everything for myself. Cheers

For those of us that only want to drive somewhere and have a place to stay and spend the usual time spent looking for accommodation (before the advent of Google) enjoying looking around I hold up my hand. Without Google maps my recent trip through Flores and Sumba would have been much, much longer and harder, think "no infrastructure" so we could book a room at great rates before we even got somewhere. We spent that saved time drinking beer and chatting to the locals.

Whatever you do, don't make the mistake that I did and go to Bedugul on a public holiday, which is when all the Balinese go there. Total gridlock.

'Only' as far as Bedugul? Look, the road conditions on the routes you're considering are fine (by Bali standards). What may not be fine is the traffic depending on day/time you go. Never can tell. Accommodations? There are quite a few both in and around Bedugul. Homestays, losmen, even expensive hotels/'resorts. I haven't stayed in any recently. Last time was maybe 30-35 years ago in what was kind of a lakeside camping ground that also rented bungalows. I echo samD's comment. Just go and discover for yourself. If you find a great place, by all means share your discovery (it [I]might[/I] help the place's viability). And if '[I]the depth of interior Tabanan remains a bit of a mystery'[/I] for you, why not demystify it for yourself? Be brave.

Thanks to all that have taken the time to reply. My primary concern has been with current road conditions. Living in Jembrana Regency means being in the boonies is hardly new, and up here are any number of roads that will lead well into the bukit. Some are well paved and afford room for passing while some involve experiences most of us don't care to repeat. Having advance notice can be valuable information.
