In case you were wondering... Money (preferably lots of it)Some possibly useful advice for anyone contemplating starting their own hotel:What Does It Take To Start A Hotel?

Sorry Spicy but if you think running a hotel in America (where the article is based and about) has anything with the hotel ownership aspirations or the hotel market place here in Bali then I have to disagree, and I do that knowing you have/had a Balinese hotel - homestay. These guys talk about building a hotel only where you are guaranteed to sell 40+ rooms/night. Does that sound like your average homestay owner aspirant here? I think not. I could go on.

You are right of course but I thought it would 1) generate some discussion points 2) give the search engines something to show up if anyone google's the topic. It does make me wonder why so many ex-9-5 workers want to move to Bali and open their own hotel/villa business (yes, including myself).

Because everyone (except those that have done it) thinks hotels/bars/restaurants are easy money. In your case I'm sure that's right but for the rest of us it's usually bloody hard work with no days off and very, very little pay. Except in your case, of course :lemo:Is yours sold?

No not sold. I am happy enough to keep the place if there are no buyers. We have been in the same place now for 4 years. When I was working I never stayed at the same place for more than 2/3years. I have seen places sit on the market for several years and then one day just get sold. I guess it is a matter of luck and timing.

And now it is high season my wife is happy with the income :icon_wink:

Which is how much? As the owner of this site and main contributor it's time to "stand your man" and say how much a homestay/hotel here in Bali earns in the high season. Please after costs i.e. "net". That is what all the punters want to know isn't it?
