If you charge for the session then under Indonesian law you need a work permit or business licence afaik. You have cleared your proposed activities with the relevant authorities I presume? Who are your "models"? Not local Balinese I hope. You could find yourself in a heap of trouble if that is your plan. If you have found somewhere in Ubud that caters for your hobby then I would suggest you stay there. Setting up yourself in a place you are not familiar with seems like just asking for trouble.

My girlfriend and I enjoy attending figure drawing, joining with other artists to draw live models in sessions which we have found are organised fairly frequently in larger cities (KL, Hanoi, Phnom Penh). Arriving in Bali, we found that there are plenty of opportunities for this in Ubud where the ‘art scene’ is centred but around Denpasar there seem to be none, or they are held infrequently.
Does anybody know of any sessions in Sanur, Kuta, Canggu and their environs?
Secondly, in the absence of organised sessions we were thinking of organising regular sessions to build a community of like-minded artists, or to just introduce it to newcomers as an interesting creative activity. So in that vein, does anyone know of a venue that could fulfil the following requirements?...
A quiet room that can accommodate at least 20 people, with good lighting, clean floor, and chairs and/or bean bags? Preferably attached to, or part of a venue that serves food and drink (including alcoholic beverages). The room needs to be private so that passers-by cannot view inside. The sessions will be day-time or early evening, probably at the weekend, so if the venue gets busy later it doesn’t matter, and if it is a bar, we can bring some happy-hour customers to the venue : )
As is the normal practice elsewhere, there will not be any tuition but self-learning through peer feedback and collaboration after the session and perhaps over a few drinks. A small charge will be made to cover the cost of venue hire, model fees, etc.
Please let me know if you are aware of existing sessions, or in their absence, a suitable venue, or even if you are interested in joining us if we set up the sessions ourselves.
