? Wtf ?
Steve Rossell
Well I've never been good at posting photo's, sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. If your Wtf is about the weird funny looking stone things I can explain. They're ancient Balinese stone sarcophagus that have mostly been found during the last 15-20 years in Karangasem regency but some similar ones have been found more recently over in the west. Oldest one found so far has been dated as 3,500 years old or so I'm told and an anthropology team with archeologists from a university from Jogya have been investigating. I'm not presuming that anyone on this forum is unaware of these significant finds but if however, you're wondering about me just posting some happy snaps then....it is what it is. The first set of happy snaps were taken around Balian and Medewi. p.s. I had every person, snake, cattle and statue sign release forms for their images to be reproduced on celluloid or in digital format for duplication and presentation.

Pix are grand and really just click the 4 cornered icon on the top line of the "quick reply" box. Choose "from Computer" or Url. If from your computer "browse" to the file and then upload. Some explanatory text is always helpful with the brain-deaders on this forum.

Thanx, Oh Great Bwana, for pointing out the usage of this 4-cornered icon. Your kind help to us, senile folks, is truly appreciated. BTW, this particular picture is from the final day (Pelebon) of the Royal cremation ceremony of 1992, at Puri Agung Gianyar. This great cremation took place from August 17 until August 23. It was held at the Royal court of Gianyar, for the 3 consorts of the late Raja of Gianyar, Ide Anak Ngurah Agung,, and for the consort to the then current Raja, the Ide Anak Agung Gde Agung (died 22 April 1999), who is one of the key figures in the history of Indonesia. More than 200,000 people attended this event, including 50 foreign dignitaries, among whom were the US and French Ambassadors (and, of course, yours truly, ;O), who was honorary "panitia," i.e. committee member). The second stage took place the 19th and 20th of September. This cremation was the largest ever, and has never been duplicated in magnitude since.

Here's a photo of a visitor I had at home in Ubud the other day. It's a gold-banded mangrove snake about one and a half metres in length. Beautiful looking snake and described as being only "mildly venomous". :)
