Parcels shipped into Bali question.

Last December 28th I had a friend send me a small package,actually it was medication,and again on January 26th-28th he shipped the same thing again,,both were those yellow envelopes you can get at the post office in usa,and again very small maybe 8 inches by 4 inches,,postage for each was $15 ,,,post office issued a tracking number but they did say to wait for 10 days before tracking,i waited and waited,nothing from tracking just message saying in transit,,the 2 packages arrived on March 26th,,even though one was mailed one month before the other,so go figure,

There seems to be no regular postal delivery service in our Jimbaran area and a photo album sent from Australia just disappeared. If I need to send something I use the post office ems envelopes. They cost but are delivered. If I am having something sent I address it c/o of a family member at a large hotel. Any medications if examined by Customs will be seized if they can be bought here in Indonesia.

Ill be relocating to Bali soon. I dont seem to be able to find reliable info around having regular mail arrive. Im not talking about shipping my stuff in from where I am now. We will arrive with some suitcases and thats it. Im talking about once we live there. Order stuff online and have it shipped in to our address in bali. several questions comes up from this: Lets say I ship in a pair of hi fi speakers. Special brand design etc. Or some cameras, laptops etc. 1) Whats the best way to do this? regular mail? Or reshipping service? 2) how long would it take from USA to arrive? 3) what is a normal % of customs charge for stuff like this? 4) does parcels "dissapear" on a regular basis? Whats the situation for us there? We ship in lots of stuff. Some of it pretty valuable. Any feedback and info will be appreciated :)

I have had good experience with both DHL and UPS when shipping from US, and as with Dave have heard negatives about postal delivery.

Several minor parcels, low value items from Alipay from China. Takes around 30days. No custom problems. But personally I would not try it with big or valuable items. Concerning regular post, I receive some from France and HKG. Same, 3 to 4 weeks. Sanur area, Bali.

In the past i have used Dhl,,Fedex and Ups,here is an example,,,i'm into collectable cars,i have an old Bmw,i like thikering with it although im not a mechanic,,couple of yrs ago while back in Ny,i bought several small parts that i felt needed changing although most of which i was changing still actually worked,,my package of parts was about half size of a shoe box,,value was something like $ 390,
