Purchase of motorbike with non local ID

My partner has an ID card from Sumatra. She's now relocating to Bali and wishes to purchase a motorbike. We had conflicting information: some say can't do it unless you have a Bali ID card, others say it's possible but not sure how. Does anyone know? Is there a difference between buying new or used? What is cost and timeframe of getting the ownership papers in her name? Many thanks, xly

Best thing is you go to the dealer and ask :) They will help, lucky guess: you register at your Banjar (Kelian) and get a piece of paper which proves that you live there.... In the past some Indonesians had 3 or more KTPs - I don't know how they handle it these days

wouldn't that be difficult for STNK extensions? Police check ups? Insurance?

Not sure why it should be difficult? Police check ups - what are those? Insurance - most people don't have any and mine is "no questions asked" and before you ask they were great with my last claim.

my point is: if you don't change the buyer's name in the STNK (and apparently you can't as a foreigner)wouldn't it be awkward during police check ups if your name is let's say Mr. Smith and not Abdullah? You need for extensions always Abdullah to do it (at least legally haha sometimes a bonus will miracles to pass). I had that years ago with my ex mother in law and tbh I really don't need that again. What if Abdullah moves to Sumatra? Obligatory signatures are always a headache. Me for example I bought land years ago in the name of an ex maid (long story), she got divorced and remarried. Now to be able to sell the land her ex-husband must sign the documents!?! He's now a coalminer somewhere...translation is he's gone and we can't sell

Friend of mine (Swiss) just bought an Nmax used and changed the owners name to his own - most people here don't bother changing the names on either cars or bikes and the polits don't seem to care either. Talk about going out on the "nominee" limb if the pembantu leaves she's got your land so treat her well!
