FIFO miner from OZ visiting BALI every month

Hey everyone! In regards to visa’s for BALI.. I’ll be planning to reside in Bali for 3 weeks and then go back to Australia for 1 week of work in the mines.. that cycle repeated for 12 months approx. can I just keep visiting on a holiday visa for my 3 weeks? Or will I need a different visa to be able to buy a 12 month rental and everything else I need to be able to stay there repeatedly? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks heaps! M

Sounds like a nice work schedule. There shouldn't be any problem visiting continuously on a tourist visa. Many seem to do it. Just don't overstay as it is 1,000,000 rupiah a day now. You shouldn't have a problem renting a place even on a tourist visa.

I wish it was permanent ha! Just going on job share to have a well dreamed of break. What is the maximum days you can stay without a visa? 60 or 30? Thanks so much for your info

Where will you be paying tax? As you will be in Indonesia more than 183 days a year, technically you will be tax resident here. Might need to check up on the double taxation rules between OZ and IDO

Oh ok... All my bank accounts and finance will still be in Australia... How am I tax resident when I’m not working in Indo though? Would you know where I look to find that info at all? I just have no clue that’s all

To be honest you can probably just ignore it as the Indonesian tax office aren’t the most efficient- so as long as you are on tourist visas all the time should be fine Note though that getting a local bank account on a tourist visa will be almost impossible so paying bills etc will have to be with cash, or use Australian credit card Work and tax residency are different things...

Both Permata and Danamon banks will open accounts for tourists (no Kitas), if accompanied by an Indonesian friend who has an account at the respective bank.

That’s great to know! I’d like to have a BALI bank account .. even just for Airbnb earnings and so I can pay some bills on card instead of getting Australian cash converted constantly.

I'd be very careful talking about "Airbnb earnings" on a public forum, if you don't have all the correct licences in place and you're not paying tax on the earnings in Indonesia. If you have all these measures in place, then ignore the warning and go for it.

Sorry.. I was getting way ahead of myself in that response.. I meant in the future .. if after this 12 months while working in Australia, we learn enough to really reside in Bali and try to make a small living there.. I would ensure I follow all the Indonesian laws. At this stage its just a 12 month break from a busy life and to enjoy Bali. Thank you for the warning though, I appreciate the help.
