Not Buying in Bali,,,,

Hope to retire in the land I love,,,Bali. Did consider buying ,,but after Much research ,I don't want to marry a local,,,I will purely rent a small villa ,,,not going to risk my next egg,,,just not prepared to get Ripped by a devious owner/agent/etc.,,so many bad stories. Also then can move around if need be,,

What area you interested? I'm thinking about putting a 20 year leasehold on apartment I stay in in Denpasar, they have different room sizes and now that the complex is complete it's fairly nice and reasonably priced. I don't want to spam up the forum but if you're interested you can PM me for details. I am not getting any type of incentive from them btw.

If experience is any judge and you already have a local girlfriend, you WILL get married here and buy a property and your young Indonesian wife (I checked, you already have one follower :cool:) will fleece you for everything you have. My advice: start now on the per-nuptual agreement.

It is certainly a funny market place. We are renting a modest, 2 storey house (reasonable size lounge- kitchen area, 3 smallish rooms, 2 bathrooms, and small, walled gardens front and back.) Next door the same kind of house has been vacant for some years. It was renovated about a year ago and recently has been leased for one year by an Indonesian lady who has done further renovation and provided furniture including TV and fridge. I gather she she trying to get $300 a week letting for short term rentals. Even short term I would have thought max about $120. Good deal for the owner who has had his property improved and cared for but I am doubtful about it being a successful enterprise for the present lessee. But then, we all live in hope.

It does seem that the message 'foreigners cannot own property in Indonesia' is starting to get through to people. Locals probably also see the advantage of entering into a long term rental agreement is better than selling up completely. You also see more properties for lease property advertisements. The problem or problems that I do see, are expats that think just because they are entering into a lease (rather than using a nominee) is that they have this false sense of security. They are happy to rent a property for example from a foreigner who they themselves are using a nominee arrangement. People are renting properties that have been subleased several times over, which might not be a problem, but you need to go back and check every agreement to the original one with the actual owner. There are also cases of the owner of selling the property while it is leased, banks foreclosing on a property and people renting out villas they don't even own.

If you're renting the same houses the locals use then you're going to get some weird construction "styles" like stairways ending in blank walls, windows where none belong and where they belong, none.

Not to mention building foundations only 50cm deep, which should make for an interesting experience if/when there is a serious earthquake.

Prices for rentals here are all over the place relevant to only the dreams of the owner ,10 years ago I was renting a small house in jimbaran ,7.5 jt per annum , in the same village was a part furnished 2 bed 10 juta per month ,of course it was never rented , 2 years later the house collapsed after an earthquake , ya the usual high quality construction { sic }

No way as said my resolve is to Never marry again ,twice is Enough,,also girlfriend is not in a position to marry ,,enough said,, My money is there for my kids ,no one else,,,been a sucker for love beFore , ,,never again,,

I have seen a lot of your replies to perfectly innocent questions asked on this forumn and you are always insulting and extremely beligerant with your input...you seem to think you own this forumn and that its your right to insult as you please ..and excessive use of the F word is disgusting... You seem to not undetstand or your self esteem os so low ..you feel a need to denegrate any innocent poster ig they post anything a little vulnerable in subject.. It amazes me that the Administrator has not deleted your account long ago.. You may have plenty of experience on living in Bali.. But you are delivering your knowledge in such a negative manner..
