I like Bali and enjoy living here but would never try to say it is better than anywhere else in the world. Comparing two places can be fun and interesting, especially if you have been to one place and would to know how it compares with somewhere else you would like to visit.
Why though, do people compare Bali with whole countries, like this article:

Bali is just one of thousands of islands in Indonesia. Does it annoy anyone else when people write "Thailand is much better than Bali". Thailand is a whole country. Bali versus Phuket / Borcay / Phu Quoc is a fair comparison. Please don't write Cambodia is the "next" Bali and then start talking about Phnom Penh. Phnom Penh vs Jakarta, again would be a fair comparison.
