Markit
Sorry about the inflammatory heading but it gets results from the addled brains of my fellow Expatricians. I'm planning to take an overland (Gilimanuk ferry - what are the best times to use the ferry?) run at the spewing Mount Raung to see my first live Volcano and would be grateful for any travel or sightseeing tips (that don't include me jumping in). Best place to view from or any travel tips (roads to avoid or use or blocked, etc.). Simply some good advice from my pals here in the know. Ta in advance. Markit.

Maybe wait until Idul Fitri has passed. Roads are supposed to be heavily congested from Mudik.

Please, Please....all expatricians who hero-worship our esteemed Markit...do NOT give him directions to Mount Raung.I've a sneaking suspicion his ego obsesses him to emulate 'Joe versus the Volcano'....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9lceeNQMwk.....as his signature says he is GOD. I don't believe he will not jump.It is a selfless act and will be seen as extremely magnanimous, especially if his sacrifice placates the volcanic beast....but my instinct tells me Raung will just burp and spew more ash or worse, especially if Markit has recently eaten some of his 'famous' chile......:highly_amused:....ERUPT.
