Indonesia should introduce a new visa category for people like Slade74. If you can prove you are paying taxes in your home country and are just using Bali as a base to work online then what is the problem? You are not taking away employment from a local and are no burden on the state. All you are doing is bringing income into the country. It could be an opportunity for Indonesia to take a lead in this type of travel. Lots of people are already doing it so why not encourage it and make Bali the destination of choice for this kind of traveller?
