Tours Up the Volcano?

There are already trekking tours available up the volcano. If there was a pub at the top I might be interested, otherwise I prefer to look at it from ground level.

Agreed, better turn it into an asset. Not that I would bother to go, but there are plenty young "adventurous" Instagrammers to make it succesfull !

There's still a 4km exclusion zone around the mount so tours are now not possible as they keep getting turned away.

What do you all think of opening up Agung to guided tours? I feel that since we here on the island are gonna have to get used to that thing in the back yard it would be the best to make an asset from a necessity. Most long term volcanoes have some facility for guiding tourists up them and for enjoying their magnificence in a relatively safe way. Be it Bromo, Ijen, Kilauea, Vesuvius or Mt. St. Hellens all are still "dangerous" but feature guided tours for the foolhardy. It seems they have bowed to the inevitable that Bali still seems destined to fight against. My idea would be to have the tours local run and to use part of the "entrance fee" to train, equip and pay for a stand-by mountain rescue team made up of locals (who all need jobs). Anyone that is minded to go should be able to. Let's be honest, the road from Denpasar to Mt. Agung has seen way more casualties and deaths.
