So most of us are probably here because of the cheap food, beer etc, but we all know when your money is finished so is the fun especially in the cities. My money isn't finished, rather I've blown my budget for the week already and have around 1/2 a million to last me until Thursday.
So I'm interested what activities you guys do that are free? I love walking but where i live in Denpasar the terrain isn't great for walking, no footpath and scooters everywhere.
Maybe there's something fun I've totally missed, just curious what you all do in this situation.

There are 'community' yoga, meditation and inspirational type classes at a lot of the studios - free events, seminars and such - usually once weekly at each. Otherwise, beaches and cafe's are almost the only activities around! (other than walking the malls, I guess as well). Check out FB groups like Bali Events for things going on and search for the free ones. In Berawa, there are free outdoor movies and acoustic music throughout the week at a lot of the venues in the area.

Well, in Rome do as the Romans do, plus it would be an interesting challenge, as it would show you a bit of "real Bali." Start getting out of Denpasar, and visit some of the other areas, using bimos for transport. But be careful, bimos stop running at night.

Let me get this straight: On Friday you post that the dosh is down to the last half a million until next Thursday? So this means you have IDR 84k / day until then? Does this include food? If it does I'm in DPS tonight around 9ish and would buy you dinner (not 4 or 5 star) at a warung in Sanur? Send me a PM.

Haha as for the in Sanur bit it'd be cool to meet for a beer sometime with you I like your posts, I'm by no means broke, rather I got sick of ripping through cash at a rate faster than I should be, always seems to be some extra expense that comes up, I still have a fridge full of food and bills paid just trying to tighten the belt a little, I don't want people to think I'm a charity case. Will return to Australia soon to work again.

So is the Bali thing long term????
For Rp50,000 you can fill the bike, ride to so many places and watch the world go by.
I play santa at the shopping centre, you meet the locals and get free food.
Also help out at the school, you meet the locals and they help you learn the language.

Hi Fred
I think I'll always be coming and going from Bali and now I'm in a serious relationship, the girl has proven her loyalty in many ways lets just say I was very skeptical.
I have a feeling I'm around 25 years younger than most people that post here, therefore still have my working life to finish, which isn't all so easily legal in Bali, if all works out sure later I can marry or pursue Kitas but its far too early yet. therefore I will return to Australia soon to find employment again. I can certainly see working towards retirement here as a goal though, I do like it a lot. The food is much fresher and cheaper, as is housing, of course sometimes I get western cravings but they can often be fulfilled.

I agree with all your points Balifrog, the dream is to have relationships last lifetime but i just had a messy finish to a 17 year relationship involving children. I recently visited Thailand and more or less could see myself there above Bali, but love is the thing that keeps bringing me here not Bali itself. Obviously in western is less traffic, much better infrastructure, healthcare and the list goes on so both have positive and negatives, but for the time being it's a lot easier and cheaper for me to visit here than my partner go there.

After almost 20 years, this Website has become PATHETIC!:mad::mad:

I haven't been here long enough to know tintin, although sadly a lack of traffic on this forum is what I notice, would be nice if busier.

Depending of how many years you still have to work many things can change. In this country, in yours, in your relationship....
3years ago, I had never been to Bali and sure never thought about retiring here. I am here since 15 months now, happy at the moment, will it last ? We'll see. Will I move again ? Maybe...

I turned 60 last year so retirement is not that far away, I did live in Indonesia but the company in Australia ask me to come back(brown paper bag).
Still have a house and business in Surabaya and go back 3-4 times a year.
I was posted in Darwin but they cut back flights to Indonesia, so now in Melbourne.
If you have a kitas you only need to enter Indonesia once a year. you can have bank accounts, licence etc.
