We were planning our annual vacation to Aus but this year my wife (Indonesian) cannot join, so i am planning just me & our son.Our son has an Australian passport but with the Indonesian dual citizenship. We have return tickets & i must come back to resume work.......should i expect any problems with immigration here upon trying to leave ?

I have no idea about leaving Bali, but I do know you may have problems leaving Australia with your children, if your wife is not present. This will depend on the family names on your children's passports. I tried to take my son on a holiday to Sri Lanka many years ago. Immigration in Sydney would not let me leave without a letter from his father, stating that he allowed me to take him out of the country. This was because my son had a different family name to the one in my passport. To avoid any problems, maybe it's better to have your wife sign a waiver and have it notarised.

My son has the same surname as me on his passport & we live here in Bali so i would not expect any problems on the return to Bali, i am more concerned of having troubles trying to leave Bali.

I think you should go to the immigration office and ask about needing/getting a waiver for leaving Indonesia without his mother. It's likely you'll need it.

you have to get a written approval from your wife, the reason for this rule to be impose because there has been several case where parents have their marriage ruined and one of them just took the kids out of the country and never return. Its not so hard to do, just google "surat ijin orang tua untuk keluar negeri" and get your wife to sign it before you plan anything

So let the frustration begin lah !After 2 days of trying to contact to the immigration office they finally answer the phone & initially tell me to just present to the airport with both of the childs passport with no problems...sure.After further discussions & telling them my son has an Australian passport with the affidavit from Indonesian immigration which allows him dual citizenship & travel between Indonesia & Australia until the age of 18....i got the reply of "i don't know"I asked about the "surat ijin orang tua untuk keluar negeri" as mentioned by Ferdie & same response.Understood its not a requirement from Australia so the consulate cannot help or even point me in the right direction & 2 visa agents i have contacted also seem clueless.I never imagined a holiday would be so much hassle & dont know which way to go now.

You'll need to visit the office personally, I'm afraid. Now you know why nobody suggested calling them. Indonesian government departments are notoriously bad at answering the phone. They even take their habits with them when the go to work at embassies overseas.I think you should write down you situation in dot points to make it easier for them to understand. Otherwise you'll just get caught up in a game of Chinese whispers when you ask them at the office.Maybe something like this:

Saya orang Australi yang tinggal di Bali.
Istri saya orang Indonesia.
Anak saya WNI dan WN Australi.
Saya mau libur di Australi bersama anak saya tapi Istri saya tidak bisa ikut karena dia sibuk dengan bekerja (or whatever the reason is).
Boleh saya dapat formulir "Surat Ijin Orang Tua Untuk Keluar Negeri"?
Hope that helps. Good luck.

Gentlemen (and I use the term loosely). After years of frustration here I've come to the conclusion that the only way to beat your way through the bureaucracy is to - not bother. We from the west usually try and dot all the "i"s and cross the "t"s as we have been taught to do. Big fecking mistake. Take your small ones to the airport and act like you own the place. Perhaps get a wheelchair for one of them (explain to them it's a game and they should try and drool too). Walk through as if the whole world is watching and you have no time for their BS. Have cash ready . Bon Voyage.
