I saw a car i like and i,m keen to buy, but the rego says 6/17, so i presume the guy hasnt registered since then, the question is, if i buy this car from him, do i have to pay the back tax on the rego plus the future rego tax and could there be a fine if i put my name on it as the owner.
does anyone know what the cost of rego tax is, does it go on the purchase price, or the year made, its a Diahatsu 2012 $9.5 aussie approx and its done 34,000 in Bali.
Advice would be invaluable

can't say I blame you, although she did indicate several times that Balinese would just drive anyway, I can imagine you getting in a bad situation doing that as Bule

My indo partner says you must go to the kantor pajak Denpasar (although this depends eg if the plates are another location like you must go to that locations kantor pajak) and pay the back tax on the rego, she answer.
Is it private sale or dealer? The price of tax you must pay depends on model and age of car it's not just a one for all.
I copied and pasted below what she said in google translate any questions just ask I'll try for an answer from her:
Usually if people want to buy a used car, and want to use our own name as the owner must pay taxes and taxes before and in the future. it can go to Denpasar tax and samsat office. and usually if the car is like that the tax dies, usually it will definitely be cheaper because the buyer will need a hefty fee to pay the tax and the fine, as far as I know. because my dad bought a used motorbike and his tax died, but my father never did it to legitimately be his, most people in Bali drove illegally, and didn't care as long as the motorbike and car could run
