Pain medication living in Bali

We are coming to Bali on Social visa at the end of January. My wife is currently on high levels of pain medication for multiple conditions (back vertebrae fusion, neck vertebrae fusion, several discs causing nerve impingement). She is currently on a pain patch ( suboxone ) and other medications which she won’t be able to get in Bali. Does anyone know what is available and rough costs? She can then speak to her specialist before leaving and get some advice.

Upon arriving in Bali have been stopped numerous times by Customs and had my baggage opened and reviewed. Requiring medication for a long stay requires my physician to prescribe enough for the duration of my impending stay in Bali, and that includes meds unobtainable here. When that situation has been questioned by Customs and explained by myself have been given a pass, but I always take the precaution of having a printed and signed letter from my doctor accompanying the meds. That has been my experience, but can't provide anything beyond it. You may wish to dig deeper via documentation from authorities to obtain more ascertainable information including the necessity of having medically required proof, as mentioned above.

Thanks Mugwump, Where we live in Adelaide she can only get scripts a month at a time on seeing the GP so coming over with 6 month supply is not possible. I am hoping to find what medications are available in Bali, such a Tramadol or stronger. They don't need to be over the counter. Just don't want her pain to be uncontrolled.

You may have difficulty getting painkillers. Your best place possibly is at a pharmacy very near to Tiara Dewata near central Denpasar. Sorry I don't know the name, but maybe others viewing this post can provide it and learn if they have the meds youre seeking and the dosage. This pharmacy frequently has meds difficult to locate elsewhere, and is well known. Do you have any contacts in South Bali that could check this out for you? Another option would be to contact a referred physician here via a doc in Adelaide. Your situation shouldn't be that unique considering the size of our expat community and viewers to this site.

Tramadol, Diazepam etc is available via prescription. You would need to see a local doctor first. Over the counter you can get many non-narcotic drugs that in most places are require a prescription (e.g., Arcoxia), however the stronger stuff is pretty tightly controlled.

Gatot Subroto Barat No.18 A-B, Kerobokan Kaja, Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361 You will need a letter from your Dr stating the dose you are on and it's more expensive here than Australia, you will pay to speak with dr 200,000 - 300,000 and then for the medicine also around 160,000 a tablet

Thanks PERtoDPS. The suboxone she is on is a patch not tablet. Not sure how the conversion goes but $16 AU a tablet even if one a day is almost $500 a month, hopefully we will find other medications that are effective at a reduced cost.
