Are you saying a Medicare card would fly on a retirement visa application? Bali has placed a bridge in our path in order to reach the other side. I don’t mind paying a toll, I just don’t want to buy the bridge! I think everyone has hit the nail on the head. If you’re in your 70s or 80s you’ll be on your on. So, if the shoe drops, you had a good life!

I am 76 now and been here more than 12 years. I keep my Aussie Medicare active and always do some checkups when back in Australia. But, like Davita, I have given up on trying to find insurance to cover any costs in Indonesia - I just pay what crops up. As and example, a few years ago I got two hernias fixed at Siloam - the total cost was about A$4,500. Going back to Australia for treatment (which I do sometimes) is expensive in terms of airfares, Airbnb costs, etc. Hope this is useful info for you.

Thanks....it was helpful. I think when Bali was calling me ....Bali was saying, “ stay the hell home!” I guess the bottom line is, I can’t get a retirement visa without insurance!

Just got a quote from BUPA in oz for insurance... ages 57 and 56 $1320 per month....

I am retired in Bali and use my Medicare card for a retirement visa.

Gday Ronny how do you keep your medicare active after 5 years? Dont you have to prove residency again?
