Interesting times for Indonesia. It would seem that President Widodo has had an important impact with his anti corruption drive and his sense of where he would like to see Indonesia heading but with the heavy line up of conservative forces and heavy hitters lined up against him the future seems somewhat uncertain.
Will Indonesia head into a period of more of old style cronyism and fanatical oppressive religious leadership?
Will "development" continue down the path of reckless, profit oriented, super luxury hotels or might there be a major commitment to sensible major infrastructure that services the needs of the nation?
And the "war on drugs". Will the police follow the Duterte style punishment of shooting offenders dead on the spot - instead of just shooting them in the legs as seems to be a developing trend? Will increasing levels of poverty see more and more crime or might the nation head towards an increasing level of prosperity enjoyed by all and a decade of tolerance and cultural advancement?
