I read somewhere that the governors has now designated Thursdays to be Balinese language days in all government offices in Bali. Our kids also had to wear ceremonial clothes to school today instead of their usual uniform. When I went to school, we only had summer and winter uniforms and the kids here have different clothes each day of the week. Fortunately I am not the one who keeps up with this! There is always one or two kids who get admonished for wearing the wrong the uniform on the wrong day.

Yes, I noticed the kids at the sekolah dasar down the street wearing their traditional ceremonial garb and not the usual government uniforms, though this was yesterday (Wednesday).

Here in the east the older kids 10 up were wearing tradition garb today (Thursday). I'm always astonished at the numbers and varieties of clothes these "poor" people seem to have - they all have dozens of ceremony kit ranging from the usual to the gold/white variety. Then they also all seem to have matching tshirts to any group or activity they belong to and then to top it off they also all have masses of western clothes and full leather shoes. I can honestly say my entire wardrobe would fit, with space for duty free, into an onboard piece of luggage.

It would be a "major expense" if they didn't already have all the kit - the Bali Day thingy will only mean they get to wear it more often.

Surely is.. most of the parents buy new clothes because this regulations.. they love to burn the money..
