Uber Taxis and other transfers

Are the Uber taxis cheaper than Bluebird? Can I get one from the airport to Sanur? Anyone used them to go up to Ubud from Sanur? Who would you recommend to drive you from Sanur to Ubud then Ubud to Lovina Beach. Please and thank you everyone :) Marie

Thanks so much, I've been looking up the info for Grab and the Sanur/Ubud/Lovina is not in one day, I've checked on Trip Advisor too. Last time I got a highly recommended driver from Seminyak to Ubud and it was the brother of the highly recommended guy, whilst he was very nice he didn't speak hardly at all during the journey, never commented or pointed out places on the way. It was disappointing really and the price wasn't especially good.

Grab bought Uber in S E Asia last March. They are cheaper than taxis. At the airport they are out in the car park so after ordering using the app you will probably need to speak via phone to meet up. The taxi drivers who are meeting people are unfriendly to Grab so don't expect help from them.

Uber pulled out of Asia. We only have Grab and Gojek. Taxis at the airport are a bit of a nightmare. Apparently you can go up to departures and pick up a Bluebird. There is an airport taxi service, which is a bit of a rip off and I found the drivers to be unfriendly. You can try negotiating with one of the many drivers hanging around. If you are staying a hotel you can also organize a driver to pick you up. You will probably pay a bit more, but it is a nice and stress free way to get to your accommodation. For Sanur/Ubud/Lovina, is this in one day? There are hundreds of drivers everywhere, and you can get pretty good prices dealing with them directly. Grab is great for short trips. I haven't tried them on a longer trip. They just started in Lovina/Singaraja and the service is working great. There is a lot of opposition to them in Ubud/Canggu and possibly other areas.

Marie, for a first visit you might find it simpler to just user Bluebird. Instead of going out the first main exit walk along to the left and come out there. Bluebird have a booking booth as you walk back to the main exit. At a pinch, ask inside the terminal where is the Bluebird office. The company has a good reputation and you know the price before you leave. Never had any problems with them.

Apart from Bluebird and Grab, which as ronb pointed out has acquired Uber, you are at the whim of the taxi mafia in Bali (though there are some very good and honest freelance and tourist drivers if you get lucky or do your homework to find them - pm me if you want a recommendation). It is especially bad/notorious in Ubud, where local gangsters ensure that neither service is allowed to pickup passengers, at the risk of physical beatings... Personally, I would avoid visiting Ubud if you have to rely on a local driver there. Scumbags is term that would be a compliment to describe them. They are pure extortionists sucking the blood out of clueless tourists. And btw, I am a long time visitor and resident in Bali married to a Bali born Indonesian who owns property near Ubud, so my perspective is based on experience, and the whole debacle infuriates her even more than me... it's a complete disgrace and an embarrassment to the Balinese culture.

I’ve used “official pre-paid” airport taxis to Sanur many times, about Rp150,000. Buy the ticket at the taxi counter, (after battling your way through the freelancers with alternative prices). Some of them might ask for more when you arrive at your destination. I ignore that, or, if I’ve hired a freelancer and the trip’s been OK, I give them a tip. Sanur to Ubud/Lovina. There is a comfortable bus shuttle service called Perama. Sanur-Ubud is Rp50,000 (multiple departures daily). Ubud-Lovina is Rp150,000 (once a day, I think). Check their website for more details: https://www.peramatour.com/transport/shuttle Another one is Kura-Kura. Looks more fancy, onboard wi-fi and maybe soon a swimming pool. Costs more but I haven’t tried it to judge. (Incidentally, although kura-kura means turtle, I don’t think that reflects the accuracy of their speed.) Airport-Sanur [COLOR=rgb(41, 105, 176)]Bluebird[/COLOR] taxis are the most honest in Bali (IMHO). I didn't know they have an office at the airport (thanks harryopal). :cool:
