spicyayam wroteI should add that this is for a spouse sponsored visa. Not sure how it works with retirement visas.
In my excitement of the news that point missed me completely.
A spouse sponsored visa implies the spouse testifies they are responsibly for any financial obligations their benefactor may cause the RI government financial loss. The retirement visa means the agent accepts that responsibility.
This has always been the case and I suppose we have to accept their system. For my wife and I it means the agent could be liable for Rp140 M (?) in case we committed any nefarious act.
The crazy thing is our total assets in HSBC Jakarta (FD's, insurance, cash, and local investments) is over IDR 2 Billion... which the gov't would have some access.
Just yesterday, Sri Mulyani said she was afraid the Rp. will slide to due to emerging markets being vulnerable to the Argentine money being devalued. She suggested Indonesia needed foreign investment badly and here am I with my little bit, trying to help, and getting no benefit in return.
Why would any world-class organisation risk their trillions when Indonesian law prevents ownership of land, possible termination of manufacturing due to jealousy or even eviction of essential and trained workers not co-operating with their visa contracts...to be replaced by brainless Indonesians who cannot complete any job?
I was more than impressed by Indonesians Management of the Asian Games....maybe, instead of getting those crony politicians who buy their jobs, Indonesia would be better served by those capable of putting on such a great show. BTW.... I thought Jokowi's TV broadcast from the tent of those poor people of Lombok ,instead of lording it, as he could have, and be seen as the the President ...was a brilliant move, whether intended or not. I just hope the electorate will comprehend the gesture.
It was reminiscent of what Senator McCain would have done, in a similar situation, had he become President.....I doubt he would have gone off to play golf.
