I can't believe that I'm about to say how lucky I am to be over 55 by there you have it. I am! Which means I am supposed to be able to get a 'get out of having to leave the country" card. I have a (very) modest income from my part time business in social media management but enough to live on here in Bali. I am also in good health. Do they require a ppl to have a certain level of income or a bank roll in their banks? Do I need to get a medical? insuranceSorry for the hundred questions. You can blame Markit, he suggested I make a few more posts so I can PM the person more likely to make any sense after a few beers! :icon_e_biggrin:

I can't believe that I'm about to say how lucky I am to be over 55 by there you have it. Don't tell everyone they'll all wanna be 55 - also bare in mind the over 55 are the single most endangered group from new AIDs infections. Fun is being had! I am! Which means I am supposed to be able to get a 'get out of having to leave the country" card. Be careful what you say about working or income here as it is momentarily a very sensitive subject re work permits, taxes and permission. We are NOT ALLOWED to do any gainful employment while residing in this country NONE. I am also in good health. I knew you couldn't work here I.e. Take other people's jobs...but I didn't realise you aren't allowed to make money online ....i.e. bringing money into the Indonesian economy from other countries. Interesting. Funny cos there are soooo many online articles about how to make money online so you can retire overseas! What about when you get a retirement visa? They say you need to have an income of about $18000 a year US to be eligible...they must just expect you to have a good super plan to live on I guess. Thanks for the advice. I will just have to sit around and do nothing then! Finally...a real bona fide reason to do sweet FA!:icon_wink:

Be warned Melanie, ask five MITS (men in tight shirts) to clarify anything regarding retirement/residence/online earnings etc. and you will get eighteen contradictory responses, often from the same person. Also once you make any inquiry they will automatically assume you are looking for loopholes and will single you out for 'attention'.Be very careful what you say on here or other social media regarding your intentions and means of income.
no.idea
Be aware that a retirement visa is valid ONLY in Bali.
What drugs are you on now? Where did you pull that bit of rubbish out from. Have you been drinking with Markit?

Luckily Gherkin's on a different island. They've obviously told him his Bali Kitty aint no good there trying to make him leave again and him being an old army wonk (like no.idea) he's easily misled.

The easily misled is also correct however can we leave the OLD bit out of this.If you keep the insults up I will let out a few secrets. Such as the fact that you really come down to Sanur to collect school books to pass on for the education of young people in your area. Up until now they only think you come here to eat my cheese and annoy the hell out of me!

I wasn't aware until Markit had told me. If that's the rules, then that's the rules. Although I wish there was an official govt document that spells it out clearly so that people can't be mistaken and get into trouble. It certainly alters my dreams of moving here permanently at this time.I am in the process of changing careers and am getting a local clothing manufacturer to make a line of under garments for me which I will take back with me to Australia...I sure hope that's allowed!! I might look into getting a business multiple entry visa. On the bright side, I am connecting up with RonB today to have a chat. No doubt he will give me the heads up on Bali and all its intricacies. Thanks everyone, it's very reassuring to have you to talk to!

Anyone who tells you they understand Indonesia is camping on the edge of reality, however, the likes of Ron, Marky, Noddy and quite a few others can help guide you on your path to 'enlightenment' ... Good Luck

matsaleh
I have been using the services of Aris from Expatrust Bali for around 5 years. He has just arranged a retirement kitas for a friend who told me Aris' price was the best he has found. Give him a call or email him for a quote.Immigration Service Bali - Expatrust Bali - Home

Thinking of looking int the retirement visa myself, anyone recommend a good company to use?
There are some things to consider when applying for a retirement visa in RI....1. The Company used MUST be authorised by the Government and have a licence to that effect. Many pose as licenced but are just paper shufflers who use a licenced company to make the application and get a commission from them. This is not illegal and, for some, may be useful, but should be considered as it probably costs more.2. The Company used MUST have an office in the Province the applicant wishes to reside...i.e. Bali if the intent is to live in Bali.3. Some Company websites are out-of-date....i.e. The multi-exit re-entry permit (MERP) is now mandatory and issued for the same time scale as the Visa. This costs extra so should be considered when comparing cost.

Thanks davita.

Just for comparisons sake give my guy Tude a call on +62 819 99100490. He does the deed for several of us here and comes highly recommended. I'd guess he's one of those that Davita is talking about but his rates are cheaper than the big firms and he will do it all very personally. Tell him Mark sent ya.
